Wow. This is bad. Between this news and HPs news this is not a great month for tech. I hope his health turns around, but that is just sad.

Steve Jobs is Apple. He is the one person that's irreplaceable at that company. Before he took over again, Apple was known as the company that gave GUI to Microsoft.

I'm afraid that today's news means that Mr. Jobs is indeed nearing the end of his life and Apple as a company has already seen their best days.

So like buy low and sell high?

Sorry, but I think this inevitable dip is the dip to oblivion.

Sad. He may never see his spaceship UFO headquarters completed.

I think your second statement is more correct than your first. Fanboys will plead that Jobs leaving is the next sign of the Apocalypse, but I think that is the furthest thing from the truth. Apple will rebound. Plus, Jobs is still on the board and his voice will still be heard, albeit, as long as he is still able to speak. Jobs didn't singlehandedly create OS X or the iPhone. He surrounded himself with capable and intelligent people. These people can contribute still even in his absence.

I really hope the guy gets healthy. He's not my favorite person in the world, but nobody deserves to go out like that...

The only dip left for Apple to take was Jobs' inevitable departure from the company. After this, that stock won't have another prime buying opportunity for a longgg time. Apple isn't one man. Jobs was smart enough to hire the right people.

He was the salesman though. They just lost their Number 1 sales guy.

What is the cliche all the haters use nowdays?

Put an Apple logo on a turd and people would buy it?

I think they'll be just fine.

Yeah because Jobs could sell anything.

Basically I think they will be fine until they try to release something new. Jobs has already sol the iPhone and iPad.

    Jobs couldn't sell Apple TV.

Their good ideas kicked ass, their bad ideas failed.

Didn't have much to do with whether everybody's favorite chic nerd was pimping it or not.

He was charismatic and popular, but he doesn't make a bad idea good.

I disagree there. The hardware was there and the content wasn't. The second gen TV has sold millions as it was released after people got used to Netflix streaming. Anyways we shall see. My iPad3 better have a hi res display.

Reading around, there seem to be a lot of positive impressions of Cook. And apparently he's been handing day to day operations since at least January, so who knows.

Interesting, I finally purchased an iPhone today in effort to start porting some of my Android apps over.

He probably said something along the lines of "Even the hardcore Android fanbois are buying my stuff, my work here is done"

    -Not sent from my iPhone

As a windows fan, (not sure if I'm a "fanboy") I think that Cook seems a bit more on the ball than Balmer. I'll be intrigued to see if Jobs is present at all to announce the iPhone 5. I think the iPhone 5 release will tell us a lot about Apple, Cook and Job's health...
