No, I'm not talking about taking steroids.

Anyone have any experience with juicing? Throwing fruits and vegetables into a juicer, and drinking this instead of eating? It seems like it can have a ton of health benefits if done properly, not to mention, it's a great weight loss tool. My doctor is a friend of mine, and I am going to ask him before starting, but I think I might try this out for a week, and see how it goes. A friend of mine started this yesterday, also.

For anyone that has ever done this:

    What are your favorite recipes?
What supplements did you take for protein, etc.?
How long did you do it for?
What type of effects did you notice (weight loss, more energy, side effects)?

Then why use the word juicing?

    Attention w****!

I use carrots and oranges, taste delicious. I don't do protein with it, but I would recommend a protein without flavor.

Do you skip meals in lieu of juice? If so, how much juice do you drink versus food do you eat?

I would like to but the juicer I have is a pain to clean. If you don't take it apart and clean it each time you use it, little bits of fruit/vegetable will get stuck in the filter and ruin it. I did it for about a week and got tired of it.

Why do many people think juicing is so healthy?

Yes me and my wife have been juicing for about 1 month now. It's not a 100% juice diet but more like 75%.. We got a Breville brand which works great if your short on time but does create some froth (which I hate). We juice Kale,Spinach,Cucumber,Lettuce,Arugula,Beets,Carrots, and all fruits practically.

Funny thing when we started on this adventure my wife posted a documentary that finally pushed us to try it. If you have Netflix I recommend watching FAT,Sick, and Nearly Dead. It's probably the most watched Documentary on Netflix right now. I've been wanting to Juice for about a year but never really got up to do it. Also Juicers products range in price and quality.

My best friend recently got an Omega juicer which I considered but know time is something I could not afford. When you do juice make sure you start a compost pile because you will have a lot of pulp that will go to waste.

If your going to go the organic right there is a co-op program called http://www.rawfullyorganic.com/ You get a great deal of organic produce for cheap.

Juicing has really made my life better, in that the energy I have is unbelievable.. In the morning I have a 32 oz orange juice (sometimes with pineapple) have some nuts + dried cranberries, or banana between juicing, for lunch I have usually a Kale,Spinach, apple blend..

I know it sounds crazy but I was a mad meat eater (I still am) Bacon for breakfast,5 guys burger for lunch, and a hearty dinner.. But when I started to consume juice for 75% of my meal it really made a difference..

I'm less irritable, have a lot more energy, sleep better, actually pushes me to workout (well not yet but I do push ups and sit-ups now :) I will start to run soon). Also my focus at work and attention span has really gone up..

Thing to note when you are juicing..

Prepare the night before because the next day when you wake up you will be starving and you will not even think about juicing. I usually have 3 or 4 32oz containers filled with juice in my fridge.

Drink Plenty of Juice around 24-32oz every sitting. "IT DOES" make you full contrary to what other people think.

Do not get to the point where you feel the need to eat (Hunger)..

Prepare, Prepare Prepare your juices ( I can't stress this enough) Once your at that state of hungriness you automatically go for whatever is easiest (Pantry items, fast food, etc..)

I have 5 kids so having kids and no time is no excuse.

Because it is a way to cleanse your body.

Its not something you want to rely on daily...but it most definitely has its health benefits.

Well it's like this... Can you consume 10 oranges in one sittings? How about 1 full bunch of Kale, 1 full bunch of spinach, and 2 apples in one sitting?

When you juice you are eating is RAW.. Meaning you are not wasting Vitamins and Minerals through cooking. Obviously when you juice you waste maybe 10-15% of the vitamins and minerals because it's left in the pulp but you are still in-taking so much of the Vitamins and Minerals you otherwise wouldn't.

When was the last time you when through 1 bag of carrots, about 2-3 bags of apples, 4-6 bunches of Kale, 2-4 bunches of spinach, 2 pineapples,4 bags of oranges, 3 bunches of beets, in once week? This is just a sample of what I take on a weekly basis and even though it sounds weird it really is good for you..

The human body actually was designed to eat things naturally and even I couldn't believe the changes I have gone through.. I normally tell folks to start small and maybe just juice in the morning. Then work you way up when you feel like it.

Most veggies mix well together. Lettuce, not so much (taste like crap). Take advantage of sprouts. Don't forget beets periodically (enterchange beets and sweet potatoes). Always use spinach...good stuff. Celery and apples are good for adding more liquid and apples and carrots for sweetness. Garlic and ginger adds a different taste...don't go crazy with these.

2 to 4 days is about as long as I would hold juice in the fridge...oxygen really depletes the nutritional value. I use the little mason jars for storage.

I have 2 juicers. One is a green star which is a hassle to clean and HEAVY so I use it for batch making. The other is one of those Lack LaLanne's juicers kept on the counter for quick drinks.

While I recommend juicing vegetables, I highly recommend using a blender for "all fruit" drinks...you're not going to get much out of a banana :D Oh, try a blend of an orange and a grapefruit...excellent start for you day.

Drinking a glass of juice instead of having a meal is not a good long term habit.

My dad is also a juicer and at 86 he went to Sturgis with me on bikes. That says a lot.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Composting is your new friend when juicing.

Another thing: Fruits in the a.m., veggies in the p.m.

And finally, the above works for me. Your taste, style and processes will be different. There is a lot of info on the web too.

    Good luck and have fun!

tested911, that's awesome. I'm going to watch that documentary.

I have a juicer that I haven't used in over a year. I want to break it out and start using it again.

I have a juicer I used it earlier in the year and felt great about it..I need to start using it again problem is that I have to go a bit far to get cheap fruits and vegetables because where I live there are no mom/pop mexican grocers its all chain grocery stores where a pound of oranges is like 1.39 instead of the usual 7 pounds for 99 cents I see at the grocers near my parents' place.
