lol yes. It's called the Bering Strait. Discovery had a show about a possible bridge over it back in the day, but that would be far harder than a tunnel.

EDIT: Hey whaddya know - discovery also had a show on a possible tunnel.

Aren't the the two continents slowly getting further apart? Sounds like an engineering headache.

That's enough for 8 time machines capable of reversing the outcome of the Cold War

    Premise for Final Destination 6?

"The tunnel! We have to get out of the tunnel before it..."

    *rumble*

I'm not putting my safety in the hands of Russians.

    Enjoy your deathtrap, folks.

Yeah, not sure how that works when the continents are shifting.

I think it sounds really cool. And Russia has the money for this type of thing right now.

It shift what 2cm (about 1 in) per year. So in 100 years, it would have shifted about the length of one Yao Ming, don't think we have to worry about that in our life time.

Wouldn't a 1 cm crack in a tunnel be enough to flood it?

There are tolerances build into these. You don't see the English Channel tunnel cracking yet do you? It is about half the distance of this one.

In communist Russia, Tunnel builds YOU.

Seriously, maybe they got tired of Palin watching for their invasion. Out of sight out of her mind, ya know?

Don't they have to ask our permission before they start building a tunnel to our territory?

LOL. I had a buddy in grad school who'd been living in Moscow, and when he took the American drivers test, he totally failed.

"What is this ****?" He asked me. "I take questions and one says old lady approaches cross walk -- what do you do? So I say speed up and honk of course."

    "Of course?" I asked.

"Yeah man. What the ****. You have to conserve brake pads in Russia."
