ha...no, i don't disagree with you. as i was reading the post though, her voice almost instantly popped into my mind.
Heh... I hear you. What cracked me up is that I was genuinely trying to look at his situation optimistically, compared to my prev. posts about him.
He's most certainly an impressive athlete... then again, so is Schafer. We talked about it before but the odds of him improving a lot when it comes to plate discipline are slim. It seems like his upside at the plate will depend on his ability to make contact on good and bad pitches. I think he'll always be a pretty free swinger that reaches out of the zone and doesn't walk a lot combined with a lot of SOs.
moved wesley wright to RF for a batter, then back to face other lefty. trying to show crane his creativity before he gets canned.
Hah... started to figure it out. Pretty unnecessary. Would've been hilarious if a ball was hit to right and Wesley misplayed it.
not really. remember when they let doug flutie dropkick an extra point at the end of his career, because he'd always dreamt about doing that his entire life, even though it was completely pointless? well, millsy just threw himself a bone and did the baseball managerial-equivalent of that as his career is winding down.
So you pinch hit for a guy who had two hits on the night for someone in a deep slump because of a rookie LH pitcher???
Was just skimming over Shafer's minors numbers... did he suffer an injury? I assume so since he barely played in 2009. His numbers have been scary bad since then with just a minor upward trend, minus the extremely small sample size with OKC. I also notice that despite his speed, he's pretty awful at stealing bases with not much sign of improvement during his progression. I'm guessing he suffers from Pence-itis in that regard... has the tool but not the mind.
I actually don't mind that move despite it failing... I think a lot of managers would've done the same thing.
I didn't mind it last night because he was pinch hitting Schafer with a red hot Downs but not when its for an ice cold Jason B.
Remember when Bourgeois was tearing it up at the plate... like CJ last season.... and Towles before him. Who's next? Some guys never figure it out at all at this level, regardless of what they did in the minors. Other guys look like world beaters for a week or even a month or two then never make that second wave of adjustments when opponents find their weaknesses and/or regression sets in. That's why I'm always hesitant to get too excited about these small sample sizes, esp. when dealing with fringe prospects or non-prospects.
