“@jcrasnick: #BlueJays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is holding a press conference at 3:30 p.m.”

If it's either the Blue Jays or Nats, Wandy is as good as gone. Both are willing to take on salary and have the prospects.

Except that the team option on Wandy's contract become's a player option if he's traded.

Not sure what happens with the option if he is claimed on waivers.

EDIT: Looks like it turns into a player option if he's claimed on waivers as well.

But will either team take on the salary and plus give prospects? Highly doubtful in my opinion.

Good for Wandy, and better for the Astros. If only David Kahn GM'ed an MLB team so we could trade Carlos Lee...

I think they would, Nats need another veteran SP and want to spend money. Blue Jays, the same, AA wants to increase payroll and is loaded with talented pitching and catching prospects.

I just remember towards the end of last season when teams were high on both Wandy AND Meyers.

    Oh Wade, you ***** *** **** ******.

I don't know if a trade will happend. If it didn't happend it last month, I don't think it will happend this month. I think whatever teams claimed him would take on his contract but I don't think they would give up any quality prospects. Astros probably want some good prospects in return so I don't think a deal will happend.

Not the Nats and the Jays just made another deal.

    I'll say MINNESOTA TWINS.

Not sure why at all the Blue Jays of all teams would be going after Wandy, they're going nowhere and going there fast.

can we safely assume that "talks ongoing" implies that we are working out a trade rather than dumping him to them?

I'd assume so. If Crane's payroll-dumping order is so strict that the Astros just let Wandy go for no compensation, I'm pretty sure that's it for me with the franchise. Surely it won't come to that.

It's too early to assume anything. The Astros will attempt to work out a trade. They can wait until Thursday before they have to decide what to do with the claim. If the Rockies won't give a player, then the Astros will be forced to decide if they want the savings or not.

I'm just pointing out that if Crane/Astros are so cheap that they let a 32-year-old starter with ERAs of 3.54, 3.02, 3.60 and 3.31 over the last four years walk for nothing... it's not worth the effort of being invested in the team's "rebuilding".

Fortunately, I don't think that's the case. As Rosenthal points out, the Astros' payroll commitment for next year WITH Wandy is $47 million... well under the supposed $60 million edict. There's no need to do something desperate, so I assume it'll either be trade or pulled back.
