My biggest worry about Libya at the moment isn't that they will become an Islamist state but that factional differences will keep them from coming apart. From what I have heard of the opposition is that the only thing really uniting them was opposition to Gadafi. Once he is gone we will see how united the Libyans are. Even if Gadafi is out of power but can continue an insurgency that might hamper the ability of Libyans to form a stable government.

At the moment if the Libyans can unite and form a government even one that is Islamist in outlook that will be preferable to a failed state wracked by factional conflict.

Those same Republicans were a months ago laying all the blame on Obama for getting us into another war.

Unfortunately though for Obama I doubt this will play much of a role come election time.

I don't know what the obsession with "decisive" is. Didn't we learn from 8 years of The Decider that decisiveness don't mean ****? Where did the Decider's decisive Rambo act get us in Iraq?

I guess some voters just enjoy seeing their President walking around showing everyone his dick, consequences be damned.

Big Foreign policy win for Obama. For 1/1000th of the cost of Iraq and 0 american casualties - he accomplished what Bush had failed to do in 7 years.

People forget also how much Obama pushed the CIA and other groups to encourage political instability in the Middle East. America had a hand in the Arab Spring but wisely kept it very quiet.

Obama knew - operating through the state department - directly trained many of the revolutionary leaders. But don't feel too bad, neo-conservative groups were heavily involved, as was congress. It might actually be the only instance that our country displayed any unity with.

Obama can never admit to it - nor can anyone representing the U.s. or we'd have Saudi Arabia freakin out as well as a ton of other countries.

But it is true - many groups worked together to do this.

Wait, but if you know, wouldn't the Saudis have figured out the secret, too? One would presume the Saudis spend money to find out about such things, no?

Saudis were not happy with Obama for quite some time. I am not sure the Saudis know but I bet they know they U.S. had a hand in this stuff and like I said, they were pissed. But if Obama admitted it openly - or any other major u.s. politician - it would have severe negative implications.

It's one thing for the Saudis to suspect, it's another for the whole world to have confirmation. The idea that American groups had a hand in destablizing gov'ts is a pretty bad one.

Explain to me what has actually been accomplished in Libya that Bush failed to do for 7 years. I'm optimistic about Libya and actually think Obama played this well, but so far we have what? A rebellion?

There is no new government in Libya, heck, the former dictator hasn't even been caught yet. We haven't seen whether Libya will fall into civil war, chaos, whether Islamists will end up in power, etc.

I think people are getting ahead of themselves here...

Dont understand how this is a win for obama at all...

He is setting a very dangerous precedent. He never got permission from the congress. violated the war powers act. And he justified it by citing the UN and NATO.

    Very dangerous precedent and unconstitutional.

I'm pretty sure the cost per barrel, in term of $ and troop lives, is lower for the Libya affair than the Iraq cluster****.

No president has ever violated the War Powers Act? Obama is a trailblazer that will ruin the country.

    Sincerely,

Every president since Ronald Reagan (all of whom have violated the act in one way or another)

Yeah, complaining about violating the War Powers Act specifically because Obama did it is sort of putting-the-cart-before-the-horse logic.

I think the War Powers Act should be followed in every single use of military force by the United States. But, of course, I believed that 10 years ago too.

When did I say he was the only one that violated it? War powers act is there for a reason. to retrain the executive branch from war. He violated did he not?

But going to the UN instead of the congress to justify war is just another step towards sacrificing national sovereignty. Dangerous precedent.

You may have not said it word for word, but you know that's what you implied. Read your post again:

Susan Rice is obviously Invisible woman, Obama is Mr. Fantastic. Not sure if Sarko is the flame guy but Obama can't be the Thing cause that's racist, so it has to be Cameron.
