This is not a donation. They split the playoff bonus among players and staff in a distribution decided upon by the team captains. They decided to cut in these two guys for the work they did and their contributions to winning. If you get a bonus at work, do you think of it as charity? You may as well say Kobe gave Lamar Odom a donation, since they decided to give him a share too.

can't believe the Lakers let go of their staff like that. I know a video coordinator for the clippers and he said the the team is "taking care" of guys like him by keeping them employed during the summer.

I dont know about the lockout if it continues though...

if lamar odom wasn't supposed to get a bonus and kobe/fisher decided he should, then yeah, it's a donation. does it really matter though? donation or bonus, bottom line is these two guys weren't supposed to receive any of the playoff money and they did thanks to kobe/fisher. and where are you getting they decided to do this based on the work they did. regardless of the use of the word donation, the article is clear this was done because they lost their jobs.

    Nice gesture
But the title should be: Lakers donate part of playoff money to laid off workers. because this wasnt only kobe.

this could be seen like a farewell bonus, saying: sorry I had to do that, but here it is a bonus for all your work during the years.

or you could put any name of the lakers roster, saying that he donated money, like the title could be: Artest donates money, since some of the money could go to him.

Lamar Odom is "supposed" to get a bonus just as much as these guys. The team is awarded a pot, and the captains decide how it is distributed. The only difference is that Odom feels more entitled. Other teams have paid part of their pot to coaching and other staff. This isn't the first time in history that staff got a share of the spoils. So, it's more like Kobe and Fisher would typically be assholes and only pay playoff spoils to the rich athletes on their team and ignore the contributions of the staff, but since a bunch of people were going to lose their jobs (because of the players' contracts no less), he figured he'd throw a bone to a couple of them that he likes the best. Forgive me if I'm not too impressed.
