I have a 12k watch and an 8k watch...but my favorite watches, that I wear almost every day, are my $70 swatch watches in different colors (red, baby blue, white, orange, etc...).
It's insane to spend so much on a watch. The same goes for sun-glasses. I just cant open up my wallet for 'accessories'.
I'm getting a 'high-end' watch finally and have narrowed my choices down to Spoiler and Spoiler There are some other good Tag choices (Carrera and Grand Carrera) but my fam and friends already have them. Tag is still considered a 'beginners' watch.. I really want a Breitling but don't want to spend $4500 plus. And ya it is kinda ridiculous to spend so much. My fiancee is buying it for me as one of my wedding gifts  But some would call them investments. Rolex and Breitling watches always go up considerably and sell quickly. The same Tag watches are going for over a thousand more compared to about a year ago.
Only Tags that are worth something are vintages, like a classic Monaco. Generally they are overpriced for what they offer. You can get watches with the same movement for much cheaper.
Their prices go up depending on what you're looking for. The cheaper ones have a smaller case diameter and a significantly lower case thickness. I also don't think that they're as good looking/flashy as the Carrera's (Tachymetre) or Grand Carrera's. Obviously, I'm not suggesting buying any of these watches at anything close to retail. Try to find the best deal that works within your budget.
I have about 7 watches that are all in the $300 range and a $7.5K Panerai watch which I wear pretty much all the time and just change straps on so it's basically a different watch each time.
I'm not much of a watch guy but that is nice. I have a swatch that I wear mostly only because I am nostalgic and it is okay to break: I have a fake tag I got in thailand that looks really nice. Like many of you here I have a handed down rolex that I am actually considering selling since gold is so high. never wear it way too gaudy
i just bought a vintage breitling chronomat while i was in NYC... i really had no intention of spending that kind of coin for a watch (or anything other than a house or car) but it just spoke to me. granted, it was a "vintage" watch (aka used haha) so it wasn't anything ridiculous but still enough that i really had to think about it before i committed. all other watches i own have been gifts or hand-me-downs and none were very pricey.
My work watch is a $70 G-Shock Atomic Solar, I glance at the time frequently and find it more convenient flicking my wrist upward than digging for my phone. I once dipped it in boiling hot water just to see if the ads were BS, it had a black face for a minute after taking it out but afterwards went back to normal. I like the new GW-9300 Mudman gold black edition that just came out, but have to buy it overseas and going rate is $450, waiting for it to come down but I know many G-Shocks are in high demand and become collector items. I do have a Breitling Superocean. I have other watches but almost all of them are automatics, I sorta look down at watches that run on batteries (except for my G-Shock).
wow. I'm actually surprised at all the $500+ owners. Didn't realize they would be the majority. My watches tend to have more funtionality than just telling time. And it has to be able to take a serious beating...both above ground and below water. Long time Timex Ironman watch owner!
I wear an Omega Speedmaster Chronograph. I wanted something classic but and that you can wear anywhere without being overly blingy.
Thats my watch, 19.99 when i bought it 2 years ago at wally world. Its tells the time, and keeps time when i'm jogging and thats all i need it to do. I Never do anything formal, if i did i guess i could understand paying 200 bucks for a watch that looks classy, but thousands is absolutely ridiculous. I usually don't even wear my watch when i go out. I'm guessing you guys have money to burn, but i could never see myself spending more than a few hundred on any clothing item. And even that seems steep.
It's a nice watch, but for $700, I'd expect a can opener and a pocket knife on it. My girlfriend got me a $150 watch in high school and I couldn't believe that someone would spend that much on a watch. Most I ever spent on one was $85 and even then I felt kinda weird. But I get it, some people like status symbols. I just couldn't imagine walking past a homeless person while wearing a $7,000 watch.
Old geezer type watch from Wal-mart $21.00 one that keep track of how many steps and mainly heart rate.
I like the 2nd better. I really want a Breitling too, but yeah, $5k for a watch (for me right now) is way too much. I hope to get a Tag if I don't have to use all my bonus to pay for our wedding. I'll be paying more for the wedding than my gf and her parents combined... Not sure how I got sucked into that. Oh wait, I just answered my own question
