Someone in the SLAM page commented that this chinese team is made up of soldiers from the chinese army? Anyone know if that's correct?
Now I think it's more accurate to say they recruit thugs to play sports in general. This is their soccer team... <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MDgkQoEJrWU?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MDgkQoEJrWU?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>
The GT player was fouled pretty hard making the pass by the Chinese player jumping up straight into him... GT player then punches the Chinese guy in the stomach as they're about to run down the court and all hell just broke loose. I blame the refs.
whats even more interesting is that this game was tied 64-64 when the brawl happened. ...so the chinese can hang with our college players eh? ...not long before there's plenty of nba-quality talent coming from the billion in china.
First thing that came to mind: <iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VePxbFQ-qfw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Absolutely disgraceful display by the Professional Chinese team -- this would never happen in Taiwan.
I'm pretty sure the Bayi Rockets are an Army team. I.e.) You have to have served in the military to be on the team. Wang Zhizhi got in additional trouble for not going back to China after his Dallas stint as ordered, because he from the Bayi Rockets and was an officer in the military so it was like him going AWOL.
It seemed to me that the Chinese player jumped into him in an attempt to block the pass. The gtown player threw a punch, which the Chinese bench witnessed, and then all hell broke loose. In my opinion, the blame goes to Georgetown for starting the fight, to the Chinese team for escalating it to WWF proportions. (Steel chairs? Seriously?)
Except in the Legislature. <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1xCn3ZYTU0Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You don't have to 'serve' in the army to play for the bayi rockets. a lot the players on teams (not just basketball) belonging to the army are just listed in the army, but are not soldiers or served in the army to my knowledge. in terms of wang zhizhi, I think it was because he did not return to the national team, not the bayi rockets which cause the whole awol situation. anyway...back to topic, from other videos around of the game, it seemed like the game was real physical during the second half. After the hard foul (like someone else have said, seemed like just going for the pass rather than intentionally hurting someone) the georgetown player retaliated. IMO, unless you are you prepared to fight, don't retaliate, just let it go and carry on with the game. all in all, georgetown got owned lol
I like this fighting. It's way more entertaining than basketball game itself. I wish I were there and I wish the brawl could be as a right fight, as long as they don't use guns, I am okay with it. Actually I'd like to see these guys use some real weapons like chairs, sticks, knives, axes, as long as there is no guns involved, I like it.
