After he served 18 months in a Kansas federal prison for the dogfighting we referenced in this post earlier Wednesday evening, current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick(notes) was reinstated to the NFL by Commissioner Roger Goodell in July of 2009..... Imagine if Vick played in smaller markets like Buffalo or Cincy , both teams could have used Vick to be better football teams.
I predict CP3 will also take the commish's advice and choose the "right situation" team, The Knicks next Summer.
Before he was reinstated, he was on Pros vs Joes and he looked awful. I mean, I know that's just a TV show, but he was throwing interceptions to a bunch of scrubs and could barely complete a sideline pass. I remember thinking...man, what a has-been. From that to NFL MVP. Unbelievable.
I'm not saying Carson is a better player, and obviously Vick would be starting for Cincy today with Carson all but gone, but in 2009? No way that would have happened. Cincy wanted him as insurance, since Palmer was coming off injury.
Who knows what could have been. I think Vick has benefited greatly from the coaching in Philadelphia just like others who have passed through during Reid's tenure. He could have went to either of those places and more than likely faulted.....badly.
Yeah exactly. Reid has built the perfect system for him. Not saying the system is the reason for his success, but other teams could have held him back.
Vick went to the right place. Those other places didn't have a QB guru as coach, a vet QB that Vick respected enough to sit behind or the offensive weapons that make Vick so dangerous.
He would have been a disaster on my Bills in the PR department and on the field. Dick Jauron was the head coach. I'm kinda glad he didn't come to Buffalo, but at the same time, a bad Michael Vick is much better than Trent Edwards.
And 99% of the people here said they didn't want anything to do with Vick and that they would disown the team if the Texans brought him here.
I don't really see what the big deal is here. Vick's initial statement doesn't sound like Goodell forced him into going the Eagles but encouraged him to do so. As Lil Pun notes above there is no guarantee he would've done as well if he went to Cincinnati or Buffalo.
figured of the gazillion vick threads this belongs here the most. vick in the upcoming gq mag says he'd changed before prison. he was just on the wrong team.
