This. Those look so fake it's not even funny. Just spring for a real one and take good care of it. I've had a (real) Ryans jersey for 3 years now. I only wear it to games, always wear an undershirt underneath, never put it in the dryer and it still looks brand new. Me too. Without question. Having not 1 but 2 good CB's would do WONDERS for this defense. More than worth 2 2nd rounders. No question. But I fear that our management is done dealing for the year. Their draft and offseason acquisitions were so well received that they probably want to quit while they're ahead. On the Cushing deal, he didn't play as bad as some people make it out to be last year. He missed 4 games, then was forced to play out of position for some others. But I agree that this year is going to be very telling as to whether he's the real deal or not.
Samuel: I want him to, but we can't just give two second rounders to get him - cap hit has to be factored in. The Mario trade would be interesting, even Mario plus a 3rd rounder.....Mario's in his last year so there's no accelerated cap hit to worry about. Personally, I'd do it. Mario's a very good player but I just get the sense he won't fit well in this scheme unless they do see if he should be at end opposite Watt and Smith can handle the middle. Samuel, on the other hand, is a sure thing in this scheme. Not saying we need to do this....but I'd sign off on it. It isn't roid-shrinkage. You would have seen it last season if that were the case. He intentionally cut weight to prepare for covering extended ground in this scheme. The Cush-bashing has really been overblown.
I don't think I would give anything in addition to Mario for Samuel. Samuel is in his 30s now right? And he has a big contract? "knee-jerk" I'd sign off on it only if Wade thinks Reed can be a full-time OLB.
I am not trading Mario Williams for Asante friggin' Samuel. Mario is 26, Asante is 30... In addition to that, Asante is due to make 5.9 million this year, 8.5 next year, and 10.5 the year after that. 10 million for a player past his prime? No thanks. This isn't even considering the fact that the Eagles felt Asante was expendable enough to go get two other DBs in Asomugha and DRC. If we're trading Mario, we can do MUCH better than that.
I'd want a pick from Philly in the deal. Samuel is a big time playmaker at CB. You'd (Wade) need to be absolutely convinced though you could get QB pressure from Reed and Barwin. Otherwise it would be a waste.
Just how I see it. I don't believe he's got "potential HOFer" trade value these days. Last two years he failed to get double digit sacks, hasn't sniffed a pro Bowl nod, and he's in the final year of his contract. And Mario + 3rd was to indicate the highest possible price I'd be okay with in a trade. Trades are almost always more costly than you'd like.
it's not even about HOF trade value, it's about nfl value. Like it or not, Mario is one of the better DEs in the league, people have just forgot it for a variety of reasons (bad defense, injuries, etc). He's also in his prime at 26 You may be willing to do him and a 3rd, but no GM would.
That's what they're saying but who knows. Can't help but be a little skeptical until we see how he performs on the field.
Just because I'm not high on Mario right this moment doesn't mean I "hate" the guy. His jersey is in the closet ready to come with me to Reliant 8(+) times this season. It's because his production went off the rails. And while we as fans excuse injuries, the real world doesn't. Folks have ground to stand on if they want to say Mario's injury prone or doesn't play well through nagging issues. We all love Mario, and I'm not saying "we've got to get rid of this guy." All I was trying to say was I'd be okay with it (not cheering it, not celebrating it) if that imaginary trade were to take place....even if it also cost us a 3rd rounder. Not that we needed to do it and that *should* or *would* be FMV. I'm just being grounded here. He had two seasons out of five were he was elite. The last two seasons he's been maybe 70% of that guy. And now we're shifting to a scheme that may not be a good fit for his style. Hopefully they make it work. Hopefully Mario blossoms back into that 13 sack, 55 tackle beast. I don't think the Texans have any inclination at all to move the face of their defense.
when I suggested the mario for samuel trade it was contingent upon wade's defense being able to generate enough pass rush with the remaining pieces. it also took into account team needs for both parties involved. philly would most likely welcome this exchange with open arms. if there was a pick involved in this deal it would be coming our direction based upon the reasoning Donny has highlighted. I am on board with seeing how this thing develops with mario at OLB. but if it makes him less effective then we are stuck in the position of losing him to free agency at the end of the year without anything to show for our former #1 overall pick. the fact the organization hasn't made a commitment at this point to extend mario's contract leaves a big question mark as to what level of confidence they have in this situation. leading me to believe he is not untouchable. in a sense this becomes damage control (with marios impending contract situation) while filling a need with a top flight player.
Good Read.... The Hottest Team in the NFL Texans players lost a collective average of 450 pounds of fluid during each two-hour practice last week, or about 54 gallons of water—as much as one might use during a 20-minute shower. That's despite the players consuming about 1,600 pounds of ice, 50 cases of Gatorade and 100 gallons of water. This year, the Texans' training facility in Houston is playing host to the hottest training camp in the NFL and, possibly, the hottest in the league for the last 30 years... LINK
That is crazy. Nice to see the Texans are serious about the nutrition of the players and their health in general though.
I'd give up the two 2nd round picks for Asante. Then trade Mario for Dumerville and a 2nd or 3rd from Denver. I wouldn't do any of those trades alone though.
Go turn on Fox, watch the replay of Samuel getting completely undressed by Brown, look at the date on Samuel's birth certificate and finally check out his contract. Still wanna give up TWO 2nd rounders for that garbage?
