He may end up with a warped view of what punishment is. What happens when he goes out in the real world, has a minor screw up at work, and doesn't get the super punishment he expects? "Ohhhh snapppp, not hot sauce = nobody gives a $h!t". Or the opposite happens where the guy NEVER takes a risk to get ahead due to the fear or punishment instilled in him.
So Cruel! That kid has such an ugly ass mother, otherwise I'd probably be ok with it. Well, in all seriousness, the cold shower is cruel and i wouldn't do that, i hate cold showers! The hot sauce was just weird....
There is nothing wrong with disciplining your children a spankings was in order not what she was doing that abuse.
This isn't abuse. I'm pretty sure a lot of y'all come from families where spanking was looked down upon.
My dad spanked me over and over with a looped leather belt, and many of my generation was spanked this way or worse. I'd take a cold shower over that any day. 30 minutes later, the shower doesn't hurt.
It's an accepted social more. This is not, hence the public furor. I still think it's over the top for a scared little kid. Spanking is a band-aid type deal, you get it, it's over. This was borderline psychological torture. And I think she got some satisfaction out of it, which should never be the case when punishing your kids. It's a lesson, not revenge. Anyway, I wish I got spanked more as a kid. That was reserved for the worst punishment. I got grounded for months at a time. Far worse.
The fact that she drug out the punishment for so long is really the only problem I see, everybody gets punished, but I might take a regular spanking or whatever, just beacuse they had to time lapse it so he was probably all shook up and scared for over an hour.
oh no! not hot sauce and a cold shower!!... those arent real punishments. thats like putting him in timeout or sending him to his room. kid prolly likes hot sauce anyway.
While I do not agree with abuse, which I am not sure this is, the parent has to be able to put some form of discipline in place. Part of the problem with society today is that too many parents don't discipline...so law enforcement has to. And when that happens it's usually back on the parents anyway.
My biggest problem with this video is that she keeps the hot sauce in the bathroom, which leads me to believe that it's the punishment he gets for everything he does wrong, not just lying. "YOU DIDN'T PICK UP YOUR TOYS?!? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T PICK UP YOUR TOYS?!?" If she wants to punish the kid, just spank him. It'll let him know that there are consequences for his actions, it'll toughen him up a bit, and it won't be mentally tortuous. To everyone saying, "Well, I had it much worse and look how I turned out", I agree, look how you turned out. You turned into the kind of person that thinks it's acceptable to beat your child with whips, broomsticks, and fists, or to BURN them with a hot pan. Not only that, but you thank your parents for doing it? When I was a kid, I got spanked and hit with the belt when I did something wrong. I was a pretty good kid and didn't mess up often, not because I was afraid to get spanked, just because I was a good kid. My dad was also a pretty angry person and would say nasty things from time to time. To this day, the things that my dad said hurt worse than any spanking I ever got. I won't go into what he said because I don't know y'all and it's none of your business, but I would trade those instances for the belt any day. My point is, mental "discipline" hurts worse and lasts longer than physical "discipline". For everyone saying, "Oh, it's just hot sauce, he probably eats hot sauce." He's a little, white, Mormon boy. I doubt he's eating too much of it. Look, I like hot sauce and I like cold showers, but I didn't like either of them at 6 years old, and I definitely wasn't forced into either one of them while my mom screamed in my face. That can be (and probably will be) traumatic. Also, for everyone asking, "What kind of person tapes something like this?" If you watch to the end, Dr. Phil says that the video was made by the boy's sister. I'm assuming she wanted to have a record of what she saw as torturing her little brother, and sent it in to the show.
at least he's not getting it in the eyes. I do find the cold shower hilarious. Oh no...65 degree water
LOL I agree. My wife had to eat MAC and CHEESE. She hated it but that form of discipline worked for her.
