Texans defense really impressed me, I liked Nading, Manning, Braman, McCain, Watt, Adibi, Jamison, and Mitchell. Even Kareem Jackson though targeted frequently early didn't get burnt so I'll take that as a positive sign. Still got concerns on Mario he looked lost at times. On offense I really liked Lestar Jean, Obi I was most impressed with his blocking on picking up some of the rushes, TJ Yates I liked his arm.
Who is this Braman guy? Good grief, he is a wild man. Watt looked good. Reed was impressive. The defense overall stood out. Mario looked horrible. He is this perfect physical specimen that just kind of runs around. Meaningless but important win, if that makes sense.
Haha....if you guys think that Mario is going to give 100% (or even 85%) for the first pre-season game, you're crazy. I love the guy, but he doesn't play with a high motor during the REGULAR season...what makes you think that he will during the pre-season? It's his contract year. If he doesn't dominate (at LEAST 13 sacks) this season, it's time to part ways. I'd give Keo the benefit of one more pre-season game, but if he whiffs on tackles like that against the Saints, buh-bye.
Alot to look forward to next game..I definitely want to see crazy eyes (Braman) against the Saints..I want to see Foster in action for a few series, plus Joseph... and this defense overall was the best surprise...
I really hope that Ben Tate pulls it together and plays against the Saints. I'd hate to think that they wasted that high a pick on someone who wasn't ever going to play.
It looked like Mario was using the same "move" every time, just push around the outside. It usually just took him far too long to get around the line, I would like to see the defense open some holes for him to just burst through
He's obviously got talent, but he hasn't been healthy. Its not like he's had "chronic" nagging injuries... he had a freaking broken leg last year, and now he's got the same injury our starting RB has (who is also out). If we're not going to fault Foster for sitting out due to his hamstring, I'm not going to fault Tate for sitting out with the same injury. I'm espcially not going to say "he hasn't shown anything!" when he basically had only one preseason PLAY last year to show anything.
I have a feeling this defense is going to be among the leaders in sacks this year...just the general schemes of the blitz packages are so much more ideal for a true pass rush. I felt like if we blitzed last season, all of our guys would just hit a wall and the QB would still have a pocket to sit in and read the defense. Although its a preseason game, I havent seen this kind of pressure from any Texans team, ever. My only concern is Mario. He completely underwhelmed me...I expected a ton more. I hope that with some more repetition and coaching, he can improve. Lots and lots of positives to take away from this game though. I love it.
Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter are not very comforting me right now. Really wish we had gotten a better #2 WR to go opposite of AJ.
The entire night was underwhelming from a WR perspective until Jean there at the end. I like that Yates seems to really look down the field for big gains. Leinart looked good, overall, but most of his passes were of the shorter variety. Hopefully when Jonathon Joseph gets in the game, some of those easy, short slants for 7-10 yards will evaporate a little. We did a good job of preventing any long gains, but looked very susceptible to an offense that is willing to dink and dunk its way downfield.
