I hope the Stros took notes tonight on how to deal with their #1 pick(s) from Pittsburgh. Signed Cole and Josh Bell...Bell might have been the #1 pick in 2013 if he had gone to UT. Even if they say it isn't about the money...it's about the money.
Anyway, on to tonight's action. Dallas Keuchel's first two starts in OKC were ones that he'd probably like to forget. He had an ERA of 30.38 and a WHIP of 4.31 eek in those two starts. Tonight, however, he displayed the form that earned him the promotion from Corpus, going 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. Unfortunately, he had to settle for a no-decision as OKC wound up losing 4-3 in 11 to Colorado Springs. Anderson Hernandez, Brett Wallace, and Jacob Goebbert drove in 1 run each. Sammy Gervacio blew it by allowing a 2-run homer to Scott Beerer to tie the game in the 9th. Xavier Cedeno got the loss by allowing an RBI single to Jesus Merchan, scoring Beerer. As for the proceedings, the Hooks took down Springfield 4-2, as Jonathan Villar went solo in the 5th, his 9th homer and 13th overall. Jonathan Gaston drove in the other run on a sac fly in the 4th, scoring Kody Hinze. Adam Bailey also scored in the 4th on an error which allowed Clemens and Brandon Wikoff to reach safely. Villar scored on an error in the 9th for the decisive run. Lancaster fell 5-3 to Modesto, as Alex Todd hit his first professional homer, a solo shot in the 6th. Federico Hernandez had the other RBI on an out. Jake Buchanan went 8, but allowed 5 runs (4 earned) and all 5 Nuts hits, walking 2 and fanning 3. Lexington allowed Hagerstown to score 3 in the 6th, wiping out their 2-0 lead and turned the game into a 3-2 loss. Tyler Burnett had a solo homer in the 4th, his 6th. Mike Kvasnicka had the other RBI. Tanner Bushue allowed all 3 runs, giving him a bare minimum quality start, allowing 7 hits (2-run homer), walking 1 and striking out 4. Tri-City is on their All-Star break. As I mentioned earlier, Matt Duffy, Justin Gominsky, and Kyle Hallock were honored as All-Stars. They'll be back in action on Wednesday against the Williamsport Crosscutters. Greeneville was off as well; they'll begin a series against the Pulaski Mariners tomorrow night. The Gulf Coasters fell 5-4 to the Cardinals. Kyle Redinger, Yonathan Mejia, and Kelvin Vizcaino drove in 1 run apiece. Michael Feliz allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits, walking 2 and fanning 6. The Academy was swept in a doubleheader against the Yankees, losing 2-0 and 6-3 in game 2. Rey Guduan went 4 in the first game, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, walking 2 and fanning 4. Franny Polanco went 2-3 with an RBI in game 2. Mesac Laguna had the other RBI in game 2. Geronimo Franzua allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits in 4 2/3, walking 3 and striking out 5. Frangy Colon, recently released by the Indians' academy, allowed 2 runs in the 6th for the loss.
Were the astros able to sign majority of their draft picks? If stros do get the #1 pick in the draft, do they get the first pick in each round similiar to football?
They signed 35 of the 50 picks including first 13. Yes the Astros will have the first pick each round in next year's draft.
Didn't Selig not like Drayton over-spending on slotted players, or was that an issue with players drafted not #1 overall? How would Crane fair with a similar situation? #1 picks typically command a lot of money right? Would Selig b**** and moan if we paid the #1 pick the chunk of change he deserves?
