I've been a member for over 4 years now and like it. I've been to the one in Missouri City and the Med Center. The Med Center location is nicer and not as busy, but the parking is kind of a pain. The Missouri City location gets really busy after work, but is nice in the mornings or on weekends.
As some one who has a membership at LA fitness in highway 6 and bissonet and Lifetime in sugarland i would suggest that if you afford to spend the extra 20 go to Lifetime well worth the money. LA fitness is messy, dumbbells everywhere at times making it difficult to find the ones you want.
I switched from Lifetime to LA Fitness and I think its a really good gym. Its no Lifetime (but at that price what is?), but the one I go to in Missouri City is kept clean, and the equipment all looks relatively new. The free weight area is decent sized, my only complaint (minor) is there are only 2 flat benches in front of the dumbbells and the rest of the benches are incline that don't convert to flat. I've worked out at about 7 or 8 gyms in my time, and this is a solid choice with good rates and no initiation fee
so what is with all the complaints about them scamming their members but not letting them cancel their month to month and instead keep charging them?
Mo City is a pretty nice one. But then the alief location is a dump in every sense of the word. Not only did that one get busted for some steroid drug ring, it was broken into and vandalized to the point that it closed down for a week. If you're considering the signature clubs over costco or at med center, those are a waste of money imo. There's more space, but the same 3 lane lap pool, single bball court, same amount of weight stations/benches. Just more treadmills and free towels. Lifetime would be a much better use of money over LA signature access.
True, they'll keep reminding everyone to rack their weights while their employees just hoop or chat up chicks and friends.
Have had a membership at LA in Mo City since about January and I haven't been disappointed. They got plenty of cardio and weight machines and seemingly a good selection of free weights (which I don't use). Wish I could use the racquetball courts more but I don't really know anyone that plays. Facility always seems clean to me and I suppose it's worth the price. My wife joined first and I think we got a deal that was less than other places, like The Y. It does get crazy after work but you have it to yourself on the weekends. There is a Fitness Connection opening up down Hwy 6 though...Ive been tempted to switch since that's only 10 a month.
The one in hwy6 is turning really getho. The People sneak in all the time steal and start fights all the time. They also let in way too many guests. I feel like their doing so because of the new gym opened up a few blocks.
I've never heard of that or had a problem with it. I go to school at Tech so I'm not always here but the first time I signed up at LA Fitness was for the month of December last year, a 20 dollar up front fee to pay for 2 weeks, then $10 per week after that. When I went to the front desk to cancel they printed me out a sheet to mail into the corporate office in central Texas somewhere. I thought that was weird and a little inconvenient since I wanted to cancel immediately but I sent it in and they canceled it about a week later. I'm about to cancel my current membership I have because I have to go back to school, and I'll repost if theres any problems
LA Fitness is pretty good. I'd consider going there, except they aren't open 24 Hours, so I'm at 24 Hour Fitness. Their gyms aren't as consistent and nice as LA Fitness gyms are, but at least they are open 24 hours. Lifetime is just too expensive. More show than substance, IMO.
Mine is fine...maybe a little too clean...I like a little dirt in my life. Paid $$$ up front to keep monthly at 20. Play around with the weights, and a little raquetball, but I really go for the pool and wet rooms.
Gym is ok. Gets hectic after work on weekdays. Nights and weekends are good. Timings suck since it closes at 11pm mon-thurs, 10pm fri, 8pm sat/sun. I'm considering switching to 24hr fitness because of the timings. I go to LA fitness on Fry and I-10. Unrelated but does anyone go to the 24hr fitness on South Mason? If so, how do you like that gym and is the basketball court always crowded or is their some down time where people can just shootaround peacefully? Thanks.
BUMP Thinking of joining an LA Fitness because the 24 HR Fitness near me doesn't have a basketball court. Does LA Fitness typically waive the "Initiation Fee"? That seems like something they would waive if they felt like they had to in order to gain a member. Also, is there any way to get a discount on this place? I don't know if my employer will give me money for it because the employer has 2 gyms on its campus. I don't go there because of the lack of a basketball court.
Haymitch - I also made the switch from 24 hour to LA Fitness because of the full court indoor basketball court. Nothing beats that. I was able to waive the initial fee by telling them I would join if they waived it. Gyms are competitive and they should waive it. It doesn't hurt to be friendly with sales representative. I had no idea there were LA Fitnesses outside of LA lol. Yes, I live in LA.
Man I swear every spot charges you something different. Some people are somehow paying yearly for cheaper, and some people could only get initiation fee + monthly payment (like me). Huge upgrade over 24 hour fitness though (in the L.A. area)
LA Fitness waives the initiation fee all the time. Just don't be too eager to sign up first thing. Get a guest pass and hook up one of the employees with your phone number. He/she will be desperate for commission and most of them will harass you with phonecalls giving you discounts, deals, etc. You can also exchange your guest pass for a discount on signup.
