I've tried Google but am not sure exactly how to search this answer. I have a Samsung Infuse with a broken screen, I want to transfer everything on it to a new Samsung Infuse without having to do everything manually. Is there software that can do this for me? Can I go to the ATT store? With Blackberry it was simple, and that was 2 years ago. Thanks in advance...
As far as apps goes, when you activate your new phone, and input your gmail email, it'll allow you to download all the apps you have downloaded previously on your broken phone; this is a big way for them to keep you loyal (investment) As far as data is concerned, if you're not tech savvy (plugging the phone to your computer and taking out all your info), I'm sure whoever sold you the phone (ATT store?) is willing to help you
Contacts and apps should automatically be synced and backed up to your google account. Most everything else is stored on your SD card which you would just move to the other phone. Exactly what data are you needing to transfer?
Contacts and apps (without app data) should be saved in your google account and should start syncing once you sign into the phone with your gmail. however, alot of people end up having their contacts save to their phones. go into your contacts, hit menu, and export your contacts. your contacts should then be in a .csv format in the root of your sd card. this is cool because if for some reason your contacts aren't there, sign into the same gmail that you are about to sign into on the new phone, and import those contacts. then go into menu> settings> accounts and sync> google > uncheck contacts and then re check it. this will start pulling contacts from your gmail. as far as apps, im assuming you're not rooted so just to be safe id purchase "my backup pro" music and pics should be on your sd. I personally recommend moving your music to the cloud via google music or amazon
Thanks guys, I'll make sure and rep all of you. What about settings? Like ring tones, wallpaper, where icons are at, etc...
Google 'Titanium Backup' and how to use it and Nandroid Backup. I think this may require root access... google is your friend.
yup, only reason why I didn't mention this is because its sort of obvious he's not rooted lol. but quite honestly, a nandroid is the way to go via recovery unfortunately , unless you use adw as your launcher you wont be able to save the positions of your screens and icons. wallpapers and ringtones can be saved onto the sd. I highly recommend rooting your phone, I've rooted that phone before with adb but you can use a program called super one click to take care of you I recommend "infused rom "
oh and when I mentioned importing your contacts from the. csv file, you do this in gmail.com under contacts
ringtones, wallpaper, icons files can be transferred, but i think you'll need to manually apply them again
Me not rooting my phone isn't a reflection on my tech capabilities, just a time thing. I don't have time to get into this stuff anymore. Back in college I'd be all over it...
Two words: Titanium Backup. You could possibly also just do a nandroid -- that way it'll be a perfect copy of the phone in the exact state it was, but absent that Titanium Backup will get you closest to replicating your previous experience.
