    1. I think it's overblown.

    2. I don't know about how those affiliations get affected, either.

For someone who apparently doesn't care about A&M leaving, you sure are wrapped up in letting everybody know just how much you don't care.

I could be...but after the Big XII met and there were agreements with respect to limitations, I don't think it's nearly the big deal that it's being made out to be. It sounds like horribly boring programming broken up by the occasional Rice game.

Told you guys before I had some sources at BU that I check with on this kind of stuff...they provided me some interesting info before when we went through this last summer that panned out.

Being told this morning (literally, right before I typed this) that if A&M bolts, the rest of the conference has pledged to stay together and add BYU and/or ND. Boise St. also wants in. 4 of the Big XII member institutions have already told the Aggies to crap or get off the pot.

Again, this isn't coming from me, firsthand...it's all thirdhand information.

ND would be the gorilla that would make the conference viable. Not sure if the interest is mutual, though. BYU/Boise would be nice gets, but I don't see how they change anything.

I just don't see much long-term future for the Big XII.

Gotta run, wooooohooooo, only gonna be ~102 today. Cool front!

Notre Dame wouldn't be caught dead in the Big 12.

Boise State is also maaaaaaaajor league BS. No way the Big 12 invites a program that contributes so little in terms of money. (caveat; if UT left the Big 12, this could happen)

BYU could work, but it would be a bandaid at best, even if it did work out.

didn't we all learn there's more money in Big XII TV contracts than everyone thought around here last summer?

But that changes nothing about the possibilities for these 3 schools.

Notre Dame = pipe dream (Big 12 money is chump change to them, zero desire to play Big 12 schools)

Boise State = embarrassingly transparent bluff (if UT left it would become very likely)

BYU = possible but tenuous (shotgun wedding)

Isn't that exactly what Texas did with the Pac10? Besides, for academic & cultural reasons, UT will never join the SEC. It's just not a good fit, especially after getting close with the B10 and Pac10.

my friend didn't indicate the big 12 was interested in boise state...only that they were interested in joining the big 12.

my point was that A&M leaving doesn't change those tv deals.

Yeah, if ND isn't willing to join an extremely stable Big10, I don't see why they would join an unstable Big12 where none of the programs except Texas are particularly happy.

Boise State just jumped to a new conference - I imagine there'd be some penalties for leaving right away? But I have no idea.

BYU would probably work. But losing NU and CU was a downgrade. Trading A&M for BYU would be a downgrade. This is clearly not a healthy conference. Just blow the thing up already.

There's more money everywhere though. If all the conferences were to renew their TV contracts at the same time, I think it's pretty clear that the SEC, Big10 and probably Pac10 would generate larger total contracts than the Big12. And losing A&M, especially if replaced by a Boise State type, does reduce what the Big12 can get.

    I'm thinking:

    1. ND would make UT happy;

    2. ND would get some assurances to make sure UT wasn't going anywhere.

Again, not saying that's happening...just playing out the hypothetical.

Why bother mentioning Boise if you know it's a one-way street? Of course any non-BCS school wants to join a BCS conference. Not exactly earth shattering news there. BYU makes some sense. But Notre Dame, seriously? That's even less likely than Boise. What are your boys out in Waco smoking?

We'll see...the SEC has 2 15 year TV deals they're still in the midst of. That's why you're not hearing about an SEC Network.

I don't know if you're right about what a Big XII TV deal would bring in, particularly since I don't know who the new players in the conference would be, assuming it sticks around...I just know that it was grossly underestimated last summer by half this board.

    other considerations:

    1. No way Kansas or OK legislature lets their 2 big state schools split apart...does Texas' legislature allow it?

    2. What's the penalty for A&M leaving? A&M isn't exactly cash-flush right now...they're still paying off coaches they've fired.

ND would be Nebraska times 10. ND would be unhappy. UT would be really unhappy.

ND wants no part of the Big 12, or UT, for that matter.
