Bogusevic is not a #5 hitter and should not be part of the heart of ANY MLB lineup. I can't believe there's nobody else in the system worth giving a shot to. Honestly, he should be sent down when Schaffer gets activated (but I know they will send Shuck down). If Bogusevic wasn't a first round pick, he'd be out of baseball... but he was a big investment. Problem is, the Astros invested IN A PITCHER when they drafted him... and he was too crappy to cut it as a pitcher. He was never a first round pick as a hitter. He's hung in there, and now he's up here by default... but there's nothing about him that says he should be an MLB player.
Not that I disagree but the guy is 3-5 tonight and has barely 69 ABs in the pros...what makes you think he can't be a quality 4th OF?
On that note, we have a lineup full of players who are either unproven or being misused because... well, because we suck. Neglect the pipeline like McLane did and this is what you get. At least we're trying to fix it finally. Looong road ahead.
His age, his numbers, his skill set, etc... Nick is likely on point about that part. Personally, I don't mind him being up right now given our situation. He probably will be out of baseball in a couple of years. That, or toiling in the minors.
A 27-year-old converted corner OFer with a .770 career minor league OPS and little to no pop. That should be all you need to know. The unknown element of changing positions was one thing 3 years ago but he hasn't shown enough with his bat since then to think he's gonna stick at this level. He's had almost 1600 PAs now and there's been no real improvement.
And I don't imagine his defense is anything special but I can't really speak on that. My guess would be that it's average at best, and probably worse, but somebody else may know better. It really wouldn't matter either way.
Last two seasons he's had an OBP of over .360, stolen 74 bases and been caught 8 times and seems to be a decent outfielder with speed and range. Not saying he will start but to say he can't be a 4th or 5th OF at this point seem premature. I'd like to see him get some run this and next season before totally putting him on the shelf.
He's a 27-year-old converted corner outfielder with no pop... and that OBP translates to average-at-best at this level. There is no sign that Bogusevic is a major league caliber player but hold onto hope all you like. Given his age and all other info, he has little to no potential either.
