It's times like this I knew more about how the market works and how you go about buying things that have taken a shot, knowing in a few months or so it'll come right back up.

It is completely up to the plan that you have in your 401K, but in general, other than the company you work for, you can not usually purchase individual stocks in a 401K. If you would like to invest in equities anyways, your best bet is for an index ETF.

Ohh ok, since HCA stock drop to $18 per from $34 and was offered for $30 for current employees. I was thinking about purchasing 10K worth of stock and wait till it recovers around $32 and sell it. I guess it is not easy as I tought.

I would much rather fade an up open than trying to catch a falling knife. Worked great last Friday, we'll see about today.

i have a question about the pre-market. can individual investors make transactions pre-market? let's say a stock opens 7% higher. could i have somehow bought that stock when it was only 2% before the open?

    thin air.

they buy treasuries or bonds or some other debt instrument and book it as an asset on their side...

it is called inflation, or monetizing the debt- it is what drove the market over 12,000 the last few years... you buy treasuries and force investors away into the stock market....

so expect prices to rise eventually, since demand is so very low as unemployment and fear is high it will take longer for inflation to arrive, but when it does, it will be very ugly,

the FED will do everything in it's power to stop both deflation and inflation, but we know that is impossible, because there is a law that can't be stopped- bubbles always pop and the debt bubble is going to pop, the only question is will it be a slow hissing sound or a big bang.

Shorting a down open today would just be pure gambling. Buying a down open today is okay, but not the most optimum setup. Fading an up open today was just like taking candy from a baby.

i'm with you. am disappointed right now with how the market is doing. was really looking forward to another 3-5% drop for better buying opportunity.
