um. dirk is beyond a star, he is a legend. Plus i like to think jason kidd, shawn marion, jason terry are all respective generational all stars too. Thats kind of a better bench/team than running with lowry/budingner/twill/dragic etc... not to mention they had caron for the first 50 games when they were going 17-1 and beating teams left and right. every starter (outside of tyson) on the mavs has been a multiple all star in their careers.

plus you had peja who is proven he can give u 20 a game just by shooting like 7 three's is HUGE to be a spark off the bench. even though hes old. thats what im saying with trying to build a bench of AI/Vince because even though these guys are old and cant compete like their golden years, they give you a peja type influence where they come in routinely and make plays. the mavs is filled with better talent than the rockets and rightfully so for their payroll. you cant even compare that the rockets have just as much "support". their bench scored 84 against the two time defending champs in a playoff game.

I agree with you that Rick C. is a phenom coach. i loved the guy since he built indiana and detroit back up. he is a smart guy. that played a huge role in making them contend. i dont think mchale can do that with the same dynamics which means we need to make moves of our current stars which have some value and snag a couple of studs who piss their teams off.

Small forward is in need of an upgrade, that is true. The real issuse is the center position.
-Chuck Hayes is like watching a Disney movie - the small 6'6", out of position, back-up, unrestricted-free agent-underdog does well until... insert other teams player's name. This has been a lot of fun to watch of the years . But really? Why? No more thanks (the triple double was great - thank you)
-Thabeet - I really wanted him badly 'til he got here. I thought in time... just give it some time. I don't think there is much to wait on in his case. I WAS WRONG
-J. Hill - The young athlete with no skill set BUT flashes "all-star"`--then gets beat the next three plays...maybe in time he is the answer.
-We draft a kid that talks crap, then go back overseas to play... maybe he is the answer.

We are told we have assets to trade for an upgrade at a later date (when?). A lottery team holding assets and not playing them or trading them? Really? Why? Are the assets not really "good assets" and just a bunch of spare parts being sold assets... the "Rocket Red" cool-aid is starting to sour IMO.

The front office hires known cheaters to help run the team, nice... A staff with the direction worth following and believing in. Maybe I am wrong, but that fogged up my rose-colored "Rocket Glasses".

I am a long for the ride:

    "Rockets cleared for take off!"

    BUT I 'm watching you...lol

( I know nothing will happen til the lockout is over)

Calling them multi-generational allstars means nothing because they are all past their prime and on the decline. Francis has more all star appearances then Shawn Marion, doesn't mean you want him back on the team. The point is everybody were underestimating the mavs, including me.

As for Dirk, you're only saying this because of last season, if the Mavs hadn't won anything last year Dirk wouldn't be considered a legend. Kidd, Chandler et al, are all one-dimensional players, you know, the kind that CF people supposedly hate? Apparently one-dimensional players can be quite good if the dude using them is a X's and O's master who can use analytics to help him make coaching decisions, go figure. I'm not saying we would have one the ring last year with a different coach, but like the Mavs I think we were better than our record last year, and I think the new coaching staff will show it this season.

That Rockets blogger guy sounds like "Morey paid for my dinner so I'll root for him whenever and whatever"

    No offense, but come on.

there actually not past their primes. Most stars in our league today and for a very long time have proven they can win in their mid 30's. Shawn marion is actually one up on all star appearances on francis. none of them are on the immediate decline, in fact I think all of them hit their peak this past season. I was never a MAVS fan, and I am not either, but i watched that team play with talent and beyond X/O's. Yeah the plays they ran were brilliant but somebody still has to score when lebron james is running at you or hit a shot if your apparently past your prime player like peja. kidd is not a one dimensional player at all. your crazy if you think that. His defense controlled Kobe, his three point shot improved vastly and was consistent, and his play making and assists have always been there. kidd is more than one dimensional and he's gotten better after the age of 36.

so no, im not saying this because of what happened this past last season, Dirk has been good and hes been improving to get where he is at now. Think about his ability, the man not only just shoots well, but he screws with the defense because of his versatility. not to mention he has developed that clutch gene/killer instinct to score under pressure, do you not ssee the shots he was making? He actually practices that with his shooting coaches, its not luck. I hated dirk for the longest time, but for a guy at the age of 33 to make those moves against the best athletes in the league guarding him, thats on another level.

I would gladly take francis back. he would be more effective than trading for t-will.

your right the coach made a huge difference, but i really doubt mchale can be considered in the conversation of coaching brilliance like adelman, C, rivers, jackson, etc...

1 superstar, and there are only a handful of them in this league. Teams who have them are generally on the fast-track to the championship.

Dallas will NOT shoot lights-out again for that long of a stretch; they shot 40% as a TEAM from the 3pt line. You wow at that for a 2-3 game stretch period in the reg. season, they did it for the entire playoffs. They were right to be under-estimated b/c it's very rare that a team gets that hot in the playoffs where the defense goes up to another level.

Dirk may not have been a legend if he didn't win a championship, but he would still be a first ballot HOF for his production over his career. He was a superstar before last year. And the Mavs were always contenders with him.

Fans can have hope. That is fine. We are NOT going to be contenders unless one of our players develop into a top 10-15 player, or we trade for one. The Pistons' blueprint is a once in a lifetime thing, not something we see on a regular basis.
