Worst player in baseball? J.A. Happ Adam Dunn Chone Figgins I'd go with Figgins, but its close. As bad as Dunn has been, his OPS is about the same as our number 3 hitter tonight.
I used to really want Dunn on the team. He struck out a lot, but he could really mash and I thought with him and Berkman in the lineup, we'd go far. Glad to see Hunsicker is way smarter than me (at least as concerns baseball). My vote goes to Happ because I don't care about other teams' misfortunes.
I see... he hadn't hit in a few days then. He was only being used as a PR. I thought I heard he was 1 off the record... either way, has to be a horrible feeling.
I got tix for tomorrow's game. Are they still drawing a crowd? What's the atmosphere like these days? I couldn't even name three players anymore.
And don't forget that you can't hide Dunn's defense in the NL. He's a slugger and he gets on base a lot despite the low average. His offense isn't really the problem. I expect him to bounce back quite a bit by next season.
Gallardo must have really good numbers since his first few starts of the season. I remember he had a string of lousy starts early on. Now his numbers are right around the norm for his career.
It has to be Dunn hands down with a BA of .167. The guy is flirting with breaking the ALL-TIME MLB record for Worst Batting Average by a Non-pitcher for a qualifying player. He is currently shattering the record in the modern MLB era since 1900 by over 0.10 and has a legitimate chance to break Joltin' Jim Canavan's record of .166 for the 1892 Chicago Colts Worst Average Ever. I'm sorry but comparing the OPS of an American League DH who was a FA signing and had in past years been average to above-average power hitter to a 2nd-year SS who is just now getting to a full-years worth of AB's is not a way to compare Current Biggest MLB Disappointment. On top of that, he is in the game because of his "bat," as his defense is in such shambles that he is relegated to the DH role. Happ has been bad, no doubt, but he is not bordering on setting new records of ineptitude like Adam Dunn is. Having said that, if they will not send Happ down to the minors, why not making him be a middle-inning reliever for now. It would be a demotion but not as bad as going back to AAA, and maybe it would allow him to go out there with a different approach, clear his head, and gain some confidence. Another reason for that is that, Happ is currently on pace to join the 20 Loss club at his current rate.
^ I am talking about worst player, not biggest disappointment. I am not comparing Sanchez and Dunn, but rather Dunn, who is a #3/4 hitter vs. our #3 hitter.

Happ still the biggest disappointment in my book, guy has good stuff but his confidence is gone. Nibbles at the corners, has no confidence in his breaking stuff and almost looks like he is waiting for a mistake to be made behind him. I think it's more then mechanical errors but rather mental at this point and keeping him up here is hurting him more then helping. Figgy was a fringe 5th starters so not surprised by him, Valdez wasn't even on the radar and Lyon was hurt. Lyon has a track record of being good, so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the injury messed him up. That said, he is the 7th inning guy next year, closer role is taken. Abad is a puzzle, good stuff but I think he needs to start. He did VERY well in winter ball in that role but never got the same shot in ST. I'd convert him to a full time starter before giving up on the guy and go from there.
