Huckabee goes rogue and speaks the truth --

    via thinkprogress

Former Arkansas governor and almost-GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (R) joined Rev. Pat Robertson on The 700 Club today to discuss why he passed on a second presidential campaign. Rather than plug his lucrative career as a Fox News pundit or his new line of conservative history films, Huckabee said, “I felt like the atmosphere right now is so toxic and part of it is that I think that many people in my party, the Republican Party, are unrealistic, and what they want is something that no one can deliver, and that’s a candidate who is going to solve every problem in an election cycle.”

Huckabee is not speaking some deep truth there. In fact he is making a false dichotomy. Everyone in both parties unrealistically expects some candidate to solve every problem in an election cycle. Then they buckle down and vote for whoever the think is going to solve more things the way that voter wants them solved.

The big new bloc in the Republican party after his last run is the Tea Party bloc. They seem to be primarily interested in not raising taxes (hence the name: Taxed Enough Already), which is not a tough thing for a president to accomplish (veto any new tax and bingo, you've done it), though the fallout could be tough to deal with.

Just heard on local news radio here that Pawlenty is pulling his TV ads ahead of the Iowa straw poll. For the former governor of the state next door he is doing very poorly and has been completely overshadowed by the other MN politician in the race.

He's been a dead man walking for some time now. Now he is a dead man crawling. He may hang in through NH but that's the max I think.

    Romney Pledges Against Gay Marriage

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/7683769.html

    Great....
I really wish he would just focus on the economy and fiscal policies and leave the social crap out of it. What bussiness is it of the federal govt to say who you can or cant marry.

Nobody gets a chance in the GOPrimary without pledging against gay marriage. It's a plank in your party's platform.

Obama's going to win the next election for the sole reason that the base of the Republican party insists on putting forth a candidate who completely repels anyone who's capable of rational thought.

Oh sweet lord baby jesus who art up in the heaven and stuff, please, please, pleeeeease give us a viable 3rd party.

Doubtful. And furthermore, he'd have an even rougher go of it. Claiming the center just doesn't work, as Obama has shown.

We have a systemic problem. It can't be solved by one person, and it's pretty much impossible to change the system (thanks Citizens United!...among others)...

What's funny (or sad) about your posts is that you yourself are apart of the problem in this country and you don't see it. Your view that basically half of the country is incapable of rational thought is insulting and only adds to the bad rhetoric on both sides.

I don't know what percentage of the population I'm saying this about - I'm talking primarily about those who are involved in the political process. I'm not sure about everyone else.

And my view may be insulting, but the fact that people like Michelle Bachmann have a serious shot at running for president in this country shows that it's accurate.

We should acknowledge the fact that most of us aren't guided by rational motives. Our political process offers ample evidence to this fact.

Cleverly disguised 'right is right, left is middle' post.

But I'll agree with everyone that there's a really bizarre field in this primary, I can barely handle waiting to see which knucklehead is going to 'win'.

    maybe maybe no

I don't agree with all his policies and I think he's a bit heavy handed at times on certain issues, but he's a great administrator and knows how to delegate responsibilities. So yes, I would have to take a hard look at him if he decided to make an independent bid.
