Are the Astros about to go on the meaningless run?

I hope we get the first pick next year, but it seems like every year, we go on this run were it moves us back in the drafting order. With middle of the pack teams about to shut it down and our team full of young guys that doesn't know any better, and wants to show what they can do, I'm afraid its gonna happen. You guys might be thinking they have about 10 games below other teams, but at the end of the season, I see teams go on a 10 game winning streak.

Hopefully they will lose most of the 7 game series against Giants.

I'm not cheering them to lost because I don't like them, I just want them to finally be able to get a couple of elite prospects of their own by having first dibs in the draft towards a better team.

They are a lock to pick inside the top 3. They will get an elite prospect.

There isn't really a consensus prospect at the top of the draft next year. Maybe that will change before the draft though. We'll see. Right now it doesn't look like much of a difference whether we pick number one or number three though.

I don't think you have anything To worry about. Besides having a sustanial lead, it would an epic collapse from another team. We will pick #1 come June 2012.

I want to see our prospects do well. If wins are a byproduct so be it.

We have a 9 game "lead" over the next worst teams, the orioles and cubs. This team is terrible so i find it unlikely we will do enough winning to make a dent.

I'm actually rooting for wins, because i don't want to have a historically bad team. 103 or so losses is plenty bad enough for the top pick.

I have a running bet with my friend who is from eastern Washington. Houston pro teams vs. Seattle pro teams. Best record wins a pitcher of beer. The Mariners are so far ahead of the Astros that an 18 game losing streak still has them 10 games up.

At least the Rockets won more games than the SuperSonics last season. (unless he has the Thunder)

It's not likely happen, and it doesn't matter much, but I'd still like them to finish ahead of the Cubs.

Can we all just finally stop confusing the MLB draft with the other two? There are dozens of rounds. You pick up dozens of players. Ultra-elite prospects are very rare, and even more rare that they actually pan out.

So, losing in order to jockey for draft position is stupid, stupid, stupid. That's why no teams do it.

As far as the "meaningless run" goes, losing sucks. If the kids can play .400 ball instead of .333 ball, or (yeah not likely) .500 ball, couldn't we just enjoy it rather than b****ing and moaning over draft position (which truly *is* meaningless)?

Strictly Houston vs. Seattle. No bet in the NBA.

Even with dozens of rounds and the attrition rates of Top prospects, historical data shows that first round draft picks (and top 10, top 3
Overall picks) pan out at a substantially higher rate than 2nd round and later picks. There is more volatility is the draft picks but in no way is it a crap shoot. And if the Astros are going rebuild relatively quick they need to hit homeruns with their upcoming high picks cause there is no one left to sell off.

We rebuilt just fine in the early 90s. How are those consistent, yearly top-10 draft picks working out for the Royals, Mariners, Pirates, et. al.?

    Losing is for losers.

Don't worry, J.A. Happ is still taking the hill every 5th day.

The royals and pirates recent turn around when they stoppewasting high draft picks on signability and started drafting bpa despite the cost. If anything their years of futility and recent resurgence if evidence of the importance of high round draft picks

Except draft order matters hella-more to an NBA team than it does to an MLB team.

The Astros need to go 26-25 to avoid losing 100 games. I think that will make all of those young guys feel especially good if they accomplish that and they will still receive a top 3 pick.

Then again, if they go 51-0, they may sneak in as the wild card.
