Mixed results for the new aquisitions...Cosart was excellent, Zeid had a great 1st inning then not so good 2nd inning although two of those runs came in after he left and Abreu gave up a run in 2 innings. The two other starters acquired in the Bourn deal start on Thursday and Friday. I think Sosa will be moved up to AAA soon, his spot would have been Friday.
With all the players acquired most of our top 10 minor league guys are from trades. What does that say about Wade drafting? He needs to get canned asap.
Brad Hennessey is gone, and it looks like Nelson Figueroa's days may be numbered after yet another poor start for OKC as they were blasted 13-2 by Omaha. Figs allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (solo homer) in 3 2/3, walking 1 and failing to strike out a batter. Collin DeLome hit his 6th homer, going solo in the 8th. Robinson Cancel drove in the other run on an out. Excellent start for Jarred Cosart in his Corpus debut (see above for line)... too bad the offense and Josh Zeid failed him. The offense failed to score in a 4-0 loss to San Antonio. Zeid allowed all 4 Missions runs in the bottom of the 8th. JVO accounted for 3 of Corpus' 7 hits. Lancaster got burned 20-7 by Bakersfield. The Jethawks trailed 17-3 after 5. David Flores hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd, his 11th with Lancaster and 15th overall. Jonathan Meyer had a solo shot in the 6th, his 10th. Austin Wates and Jonathan Singleton went back-to-back in the 9th. Wates' 2-run homer was his 6th, and Singleton hit his first homer as a Jethawk (10th this season) one batter later. Zach Grimmett allowed 5 runs on 6 hits (solo homer) in 1 2/3, striking out 1. Lexington allowed Kannapolis to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th, breaking a 2-2 tie. They lost 3-2. Ben Orloff had the lone RBI, and the slumping Telvin Nash scored the other run. Luis Cruz allowed 2 solo homers and scattered 3 other hits in 7, walking 1 and fanning 9. Murilo Gouvea allowed the Intimidators to score the run in the 8th. Tri-City was in Jamestown to open a series with the Jammers last night. Down 6-3, the ValleyCats scored 6 in the top half to take the lead, which turned out to be short-lived, as Jamestown scored 6 of their own to retake the lead, and eventually won 12-9. Neiko Johnson and Ryan McCurdy drove in 2 apiece. Zach Johnson, Drew Muren, and Rafael Valenzuela drove in 1 each. Euris Quezada went 4 1/3 and allowed 6 runs on 7 hits, walking 4 and striking out 2. Mitchell Lambson had a nightmare 8th, allowing a 2-run homer without getting any of the 4 Jammers he faced out. 2 more runs were charged to Lambson after Ryan Cole allowed them to score. Greeneville and the Gulf Coast club were off. Greeneville travels to Bluefield, a town straddling the border between Virginia and West Virginia, to open a series with the Blue Jays. First pitch is at 7 Eastern. The Gulf Coasters are at the Nationals' facility in Viera, Florida today. The Academy was held to 1 hit from Tomas de la Cruz in a 3-0 loss to the Rays, a game completed in 7 innings. Ernesto Frias got the bare minimum quality start, allowing 6 hits (solo homer), walking 1, and fanning 10.
Yep... but its also at hitter friendly california league. Move him up to corpus ASAP. Have both (Cosart and Singleton) of them start the year at Corpus. Corpus is the most interesting team (Astros included) in the farm system.
He's had some good picks, but nothing great. I certainly haven't been blown away, but the lack of a star could be due to things like signability issues. Regardless he hasn't done enough on this front to save him from being fired.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/heyman-on-hendry-yankees-astros.html Wow. While I can't say this report shocks me, it's pretty depressing. I'm assuming this was before the draft this year and the trades last week.
Just one guys opinion. 3 years ago Altuve would never play in the majors. 3 years ago JD Martinez would never play in the majors. 3 years ago Jordan Schafer was going to be a star.
you are saying that like altuve and martinez are already established major league stars. technically, anybody can play in the majors.
But they are playing, and nobody would be surprised if they became average ML players, and most reports expect them to at least be able to be bench players. There was a time when neither of these guys were expected to make it to the majors, while a player like Schafer was expected to be a star, and now would be considered behind those guys.
Before making a couple of trades that brought in a handful of prospects, Astros ownership hired an independent scout to evaluate their entire minor league system. ....you forgot part of the quote.....
Ariel Ovando is 4-5 tonight including a triple. Edit - Not sure if Chase Davidson is going to be a prospect but sure trying to become one.
