Warning, devil's advocate post incoming. Based on who they've been compared to in these two threads: Kenny Anderson Darrell Armstrong Mookie Blaylock Raymond Felton Allen Iverson Mark Jackson Kyle Lowry Damon Stoudamire David Wesley Mike Bibby Jason Terry Brandon Jennings Bobby Jackson Jannero Pargo Eddie House Team Brooks is beating Team Lowry 2-0 in championships, and both were recent. (this is assuming I didn't make a mistake in my quick analysis, which is very possible).
It would be nice if you read before you post. I never said he wad or will be (bc he wont) an all-star, let alone a superstar. AB was a good player for us in 09-10. He was asked to play a role that was different compared to the Suns in 10-11. We asked him to score more while playinng PG; Suns asked him to be more pass-first. The more AB learns as he has more experience, he will be even better than what he was in 09-10 when he won MIP by balancing both.
Why not just recycle the old, who is better thread? Or who will have the better career, start a poll......lather, rinse, repeat, lather, rinse, repeat. DD
Seriously though, no one is forcing you to take part in debates and discussions you are no longer interested in.

You are missing the whole point of this discussion, which is to try to look at what a player is comparable to in some sort of objective fashion rather than simply talk about subjective opinions of how good a player was or will be or simply referring to old box score numbers like points per game. Stop throwing a tantrum just because the data does not favor your pet player. As for supposedly clogging up the forum (because there so so much to talk about right now): If people stop responding to this thread, it'll fall off the first page.
Brooks is NOT like Jason Terry, he is like TONY PARKER in how.... okay that wasn't right of me. Mike Bibby is a good comparison. Same offense, same coach.
honestly i think brooks is a very unique player. he's much more talented than house and pargo. he's a much worse defender than jackson (who was a stud on D), and a much worse rebounder than jennings. bibby and terry come close as below average defenders and play makers, but GREAT shooters. still, brooks is much quicker and much more adept at driving into the paint than these guys.
Thanks. The statistical comparisons were never intended to be definitive, or to be used to advance any particular agenda (i.e. AB/Lowry sucks! AB/Lowry is great!). The motivation behind it is simply to identify players with similar output profiles so that the "Player X is like Player Y" or the "Player X is at the level of Y" discussion can be done in a more objective way. If people don't think the criteria I used were fair, they can used the link in the OP to go to basketball-reference.com and enter their own criteria, see what happens and discuss the results.
I think you're right. When he was on, he was really fun to watch. I think we all agree that we were thoroughly disappointed by his developing attitude problems. He and Landry were my two favorites in 07-09, I loved their competitive drive and endless motors. I don't know what happened to that. I'm glad we have Lowry, currently. I hope Brooks can refine his game and become relevant again over the next few years.
He's only unique in the sense that player with the following traits tend not stick in the NBA. 1. extremely small size 2. no defense 3. mediocre passer 4. mediocre around the basket 5. can't get to the line So the fact that Brooks can be a backup or a borderline starter shows he has talents elsewhere. But in the end, a 5-10 shooting guard has only so much upside. Not every team has a 6-5 Jason Kidd who can compliment a Jason Terry.
AB was a late first round pick who overacheived and was pivotal in pushing this team to within 1 game of the WCF. He got hurt and didn't handle it well, now he is gone. Why is it, that some people can see the big picture, but others refuse to ackowledge his contributions to this team? If you honestly want to sit here and say that Brooks was not a net positive to this team, go ahead, but you aren't being honest, either with yourself or others.
Not sure where comparison's to Bibby, Bobby Jackson, Terry, etc. somehow equals to an opinion that Brooks made no contribution to the team.
