FFXIII was extremely addictive in some aspects and extremely, mindnumbling bad in others. Story: Crappy. Skipped scenes on my first and only playthrough. Something I never thought I'd ever do for a FF game. Characters: Unimaginably bad Pacing: Horrible. No towns to rest. Dungeon after dungeon after dungeon Sidequests: Bunched up near the end. Not to mention where's that Emerald/Omega/Ultima/whatever weapon I need to kill? Battles: Drawn out way too much most of the time. OTOH, fast-paced battles aided by awesome battle music(both Saber's Edge and Blinded by Light) are a bit of an adrenaline rush. And I thoroughly enjoyed them even if many battles took longer than they should. If this game had XII's exploration, i.e. chapter 11 each and every chapter, it would've been pretty awesome despite all the horribleness. But alas, only one chapter 11.
I'd agree with this for the most part. Your time on Pulse was the only time the game you were doing more than just fighting (or watching cut scenes, that were beautiful, but too frequent). I liked the Paradigms, but I didn't like having no control over what the characters did, and they were so fast paced that choosing anything but auto-battle could be a pain. I honestly didn't know all the abilities my characters had because I was so used to hitting auto-battle.
I just found this website online where you can play other players http://www.ttadvance.ca My username is the same, but it's annoying because you have to refresh pages to see if the person moved.
Its been downhill after 8 for me, but I think 9 just needs me to actually go back and get into it. I abandoned way too soon and never got back on, but actually think I would like it. They changed it too much from what it was.
Either you guys bought into the negativity surrounding FF12, or you just have not played it. Everyone on the gamefaqs message board have admitted that it is not until very recently they started to recognize this game as something special. Severly underrated. Sad that few if at all list it In their top 5. Those PS games are good, the characters (except in 8) and story were great but 12 simply had a different affect on me. It felt i was pulled into a different world.
ive played all of them since ff2 on nes, this series is like the only games i really play, wasted money on consoles i dont use to play them lol after 9 it became more about the action instead of the story imo the stories never drew me in, graphics are a million times better but its just a waste, i didnt even finish 13 after i found out that you had to beat it to beat them big turtles, thats just ridiculous, i took it to gamestop and swore off any new final fantasy games, i need a new rpg with a great story instead of great action.
There were so many directions that I could be going in 12, that I ultimately forgot what I was actually doing. I felt like I needed to start over (and certainly would now), which is disappointing considering I invested a number of hours into it.
Didn't like it much... FF7, FFX, FFT, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and Tales of Vesperia are all better JRPGs in my book.
Well...I actually thought 13 was OK, up until the end...so I'm not sure if finishing it means much. The last couple hours retroactively made everything that much worse, and I just wished I didn't finish it now. (mostly just bashing 13 here, not arguing it is better/worse than 8...as I said earlier, I probably should replay it anyway) Yeah, I'll give some kudos to 13. It did some positive things. But the lows were...really low. Sure, I love some Disgaea. In fact, reminds me that I should probably go preorder Disgaea 4... I enjoyed it. Probably up there with my favorite FF games. Probably would have been better if the SE execs didn't get so involved though (at least from what I can recall from the "rumors). (or Persona 3...or several of RPGs from Atlus, though Persona focuses on story more so than the others, save for maybe Digital Devil Saga).
She was hot. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jBYID_624n0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> But, seriously, if it had a better story, I probably would've loved it because it nailed everything else.
FF12 did have a good story, it just wasn't as romanticized as the previous FF. It was more game of thrones than harry potter. (psx FFs)
No it didn't. It just went down the toilet after getting Basch. That's the time Vaan became a minor character.
I'm pretty sure no one has played it. Including the development staff. All we have are trailers. (OK, I'm exaggerating. Maybe 2-3 people on the staff have played it). Think these are some of the problems that were caused by the exec involvement I mentioned earlier. IIRC, Vaan (and Penelo?) were added late in development, so FF could have some teenage character for the player to connect with (cause only 14-year old kids play Final Fantasy, and they don't want to play as some 30 year old, gruffy soldier guy). Basch was/is supposed to be the main character. Story had some issues, but I think it was due to these kind of issues (rewriting it so the execs would be happy). I think the basics of it were strong.
XIII is good... But no other Final Fantasy will ever be better than XII. Sorry, but XII had Oscar level writing, characters, music, and game-play. It was the perfect game. I'd pay big bucks to have a copy of that game in HD.
