If you listen to any highlights of Hillis with Browns radio PBP guys you will hear them sing Vickers' praises quite a bit. He opened big holes for Hillis just like Leach did here.
having an offensive set of 2 tights along with casey could really create matchup problem for teams. If the defense stacks, then i would take our TEs and Casey against their safeties any day. If they don't stack, then the texans would have a blocking advantage to run.
Hillis's breakout year and also don't forget a washed up Jamal Lewis's resurgent year a few years back.. after that Mangini just went away from using Vickers for some reason, he apparently had it out for him
I agree that we should deff utilize both Casey and Owens but I don't understand why everyone is freaking out about not having a "true" 2nd receiver. We didnt have a healthy OD all of last year and still managed to have on of the top passing attacks in the league. Kevin Walters is sick, might not always be deep threat but with him and Jones they make up a pretty good dual threat behind Andre. And lets not for get this undrafted rookie stud from LSU we signed. He was the top WR of his class coming out of High School, he just played in a ****ty system in college.
With the Vickers signing, I finally feel a sense of closure with the Leach departure. I can now fully be happy for Leach getting the big payday that he deserved, while we found a GREAT value replacement who I expect to more than fill his shoes WIN-WIN for both parties I say Now, let the Vickers to the Beach era begin!
I agree, there were obviously better ways to spend our money than upgrading to a "true #2 wr" OD's return instantly upgrades KW and JJ ..we also have Dorin Dickerson waiting for his chance to step up Plus the UDFAs from LSU and Oregon are gems we can develop, I am not at all concerned about the position
I don't get it!?! We're signing the guys we want! We're signing great players and not filling spots with unproven rookies? WTF is happening to the Texans?
The more time Andre spends in this league, the more he becomes among my favorite players ever. His personality/leadership reminds of Biggio and Bagwell, and Hakeem in his later years. The guy is all class, humble, leads by example and not his mouth, has a willingness to teach others. Puts Ocho and Moss and TO to shame. His number should be retired and statue in his honor outside Reliant when it's all said and done.
a 2 tight set isnt all that uncommon and worked very well last year. Casey would be acting as the FB. Even if it's just Arian in the backfield (a very good receiver) it creates mismatch potential for the other team.
I don't think were saying that we run that set all the time...but it is definitely a nice change of pace and can completely put the defense in a compromising position.
I'm not to sure about our cap situation but I think we need to sign another vet corner along with another wide receiver. If Andre or Joseph goes down we are screwed at WR or CB.
Anyone questioning the capability of Kubiak's offense at this point has not been paying attention. Legit WR2 or not, they are capable of big things -- consistency and situational playcalling has been the only thing holding it back. In other words, we could run a set with OD, Dreessen, Casey, and Dickerson all on the field at the same time and our biggest hindrance would still be what is going on inside Kubiak's head. His schemes absolutely work regardless of personnel, but they got too complicated sometimes and execution becomes a problem.
