Folks, this kind of cool **** if what we are missing out on with the Tea Party tax-cutting crazies running around in this country.
We spend too much on foreign aid, we need to be spending some of that on stuff like this. Lagging behind in high speed rail lines is simply mind boggling. DD
If by foreign aid, you mean defense and wars in other countries then you are correct. But as long as Americans complain about the small percentages of taxes that we do pay in comparison to essentially every other 1st world nation, you will never see things like this in the US with regularity like you would expect of a "superpower".
I think that is a myth though, if you add up all the taxes we pay on things like a gallon of gas, or property taxes, or sales taxes, I believe we are right in line at about 55+% DD

Talk about out of wack.....SHEESH !!!!... We need to seriously cut back on our military spending.....WAY WAY back. DD
You forget that the DoD budget is the primary means by which we subsidize massive mega-corporations in our "free-market" economy, greatly enriching a privileged few at everyone else's expense. This, as we know, is the American way. Why do you hate America, DD? (D&D ahoy)
Yeah man if there is a need for high speed rail anywhere in this country it has to be here. Instead, we get more buses.
imagine new york, chicago, dc or san fran without good public transportation... we are just as big of a city and we have 5 metro buses and a rail that goes 10mph.
