Today is the first day of fasting for Muslims all around the world! Sun up till Sun down. I hope that everyone from all types of backgrounds and religions has an amazing month. If you guys have never tried it before... Try to fast a day this month! It's pretty simple you eat a breakfast loaded with protein(preferably casein) and drink a lot of water before sun up. You break your fast at sun down. Around this time of the year that means breaking your fast around 815pm. On the spiritual side of the fast, try to refrain things like cursing, backbiting, slander, verbal/physical fighting, checking out women(i know that might be a bit hard). Of course, if you do try it. Just do your best and forget the rest
DO WELL. Live well. Enjoy life. Show the will and strength. Have a blessed time, y'all. WTF? They're not going to VEGAS, man. ALSO: That's what SHE said!
Ramadan Mubarak! There was an excellent article in the Chron today. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7677899.html

In modern America, the poor tend not to be starving but rather look like this: So, perhaps the new Ramadan tradition should be to stuff ourselves 24/7 with Cheetos and candy for the whole month in order to understand what it feels like?
Did you miss the strength and devotion part? Not eating or drinking is just the physical aspect of it. It's a time of unity for Muslims worldwide. It protects us from unnecessary sin and enables us to be closer to our Creator. Do some research if you have the time and interest. Ramadan Mubarak to everyone!
Whether or not people fast for the right reasons or not is up to them. They are probably just doing it because all their family and friends are doing it without having knowledge of it's true purpose. Hit up a local mosque and see for yourself if it is "quite the opposite" of what the other poster stated.
Well that's the sad thing. I see him as more Westernize. I'm pretty sure he's doing it for his parents but not admitting it. I'm not talking about just fasten but the whole religion itself. The guy have a hardcore Islam last name. Great guy but I see him suffering from this religion having to constantly defend it and going through this whole uncomfortable process.
for a person like that it's better to detach and look at it from a 3rd person and then make an informed decision. usually learn a lot about the actual REASONS the religion is the way it is
I'm thinking about practicing this for the month. What are the rules? Basically just eat before sunrise and after sunset? Can I drink water throughout the day?
