After reading the article abut his business tactics I'm not a big fan of the guy, but I'm gonna have to give him props for doing what Mclane should of done since 07 which is to blow it up and build up the farm system. Now I just hope he finds a gm that how knows they are more then just one team to do trading with.
Drayton was blowing it up last year, remember? Traded Oswalt and Berkman. The core was very young as of this time last season.
Yeah, but it took Drayton 3 more years than it should have to finally blow it up. Astros should have been doing this a long time ago.
As long as he cleans house including Wade I will be happy. I expect him to make a serious run at Friedman. Maybe he can also change the way they run the ballpark as well. People will need incentive to go to game now more than ever.
We're moving into the unknown with Crane but I've liked what I read and heard about the direction he wanted to take the club. Spend money in the draft and Int FAgency along with a key free agent signing here or there and I'll be happy.
I'm mixed. IF he is going to fire Wade in a few months how can he trust him to make moves like this now?
Lets wait until Crane does something more than demand a 20% cut in salaries, before we start threads like this. I don't mind them cutting salary, since that also means going younger, but we need to wait and see what he does with that savings, rather than assuming.
Does anyone really see any possible way that Ed Wade is retained as GM? His dismissal seems inevitable to me, and I would bet good proper american monies that Tal is gone as well. Clean slate, pretend and spend like you're in a small market ala the Rays for a few years, then see where things are.
There's an argument for Bobby Heck keeping his job, but the ML has just been too big a disaster for Wade. Too bad for Mills--who knows what he can be managing ML talent. He never had any here.
They should have done this in 2007. I have no problem with Crane wanted to cut the payroll you can have a payroll a lot lower than 75 million and be the worst team in baseball.
What's the point in letting Mills go...might as well keep him while we suck and see what he can do once real talent starts to come up. I think it'd be pretty shortsighted to let him go now.
