And the absolute worst defensive players fail in about 1 out of 25 chances. The best defenders may also make 1 spectacular play out of 25 chances at best (most are going to be routine).

If given the choice, I'd rather have my own ace pitchers in the playoffs than the good defenders.

Wonderful insight Ken. Truly appreciate it.

    Impact prospects? lulz

Wandy, Myers definitely serve no purpose on this team now. If there is a taker, they'll move them.

Braves players feel bad for Schafer, ha. I would too!

That's what they said about Bourn too......look at the haul Wade got for him! I was really excited to see the Astros in full rebuild mode with their sights set on 2-3 years from now. However, after seeing the last 2 deals I have no faith in Wade to make a good deal. I would rather wait till the offseason with another GM at the helm then let Wade do even more damage. Hey, maybe I am wrong and those were the best deals out there, but maybe those were the best deals out there BECAUSE other GM's know they can get over on Wade. Either way I'd just assume wait till the offseason if these are the types of deals being offered for the Astros best players.

Yankees trying for Wandy. No shock there. Jayon Stark mentioned this yesterday

I wonder if this might be the first multiple-player deal we see. Yankees are looking for a bullpen arm too, right? Maybe they want us to send Wilton Lopez, or even to flip them Abreu, along with Wandy; that might open up one of Montero/Banuelos/Betances. I doubt Wandy alone gets you there, even if you kick in cash.

I actually have NO idea what Wade could ask from the Yankees. They have ELITE prospects we aren't getting...a long shot is Montero because teams aren't sure he can play catcher and from what I've read his stock has dropped but doubt it.

Wandy for Brandon Laird and Austin Romine

So, did you have faith Wade would make good deals before the last 2 deals? The Astros got a lot for Pence. Judging Pence deal, I am disappointed in Bourn deal. The Astros are in last place for a reason....they only have two good position players and neither of them deserve "All-Star" status.

The Astros are not going to get prospects that an ace pitcher or an elite player is going to snag. Wandy may bring a little more than Pence.

Astros should go after Ian Stewart. I think he needs change of scenery and I am tired of Chris Johnson.

Mike Adams to the Rangers...I remember when the Stros would make impact acquisitions.

Edit - Pads got two impact prospect from Texas for a real good reliever but we couldn't get two for Bourn?

What a joke. Padres got two very good prospects for a middle reliever and the Astros couldn't get one good prospect for a all-star centerfielder.

You have to start somewhere. I am a Grizzlies fan as most of you know, and our base was saying the same things when we blew it all up.

Rebuilding is a process that can go really well, if done the right way. The problem is that most front offices don't have the patience to do it right.

The astros have been treading water for years with the mantra of retooling rather than rebuilding. Even if half the moves we make don't work out, this is the right thing to do.

I don't know who is brokering the deal there in Colorado, but I wish he were doing it here for the astros.

The guy is taking the Indians entire farm system.

#Astros now telling teams they're done for today. So Wandy Rodriguez, Brett Myers, Jason Michaels, Carlos Lee can write rent checks. #trades

For people interested in possible August trades, here is a simple breakdown to how it works:

If someone claims Wandy on second-pass waivers, I say good riddance. It seems like that's the only way to get Wandy's contract off the books without paying a significant portion back.

Which is likely why he won't get claimed on waivers.

    Most bad contracts dont.

The other thread pointed out the fact that on waivers his contract is 2/25 rather than the 3/39 if he's traded (team option becomes player option). That's pretty reasonable for a pitcher of his caliber.
