Sigh. I was hoping Martinez would start tonight, but it looks like they won't do that.

JD Martinez first at-bat w/ Stros... doubled to center over Nyjer Morgan's head, driving in Quintero.

    BEAST.

All he did was pinch hit. He did not stay in the game.

Question: why does Brad Mills roll with: Aneury Rodriguez, when he has Escalona, Fernando Rodriguez and wilton lopez?

Doesn't make sense. Sure he might be a long reliever, but try to win the game why don't cha.

    From the box score ...

Altuve pinch hit for the pitcher in the top off the 6th and got a hit (single). He would eventually score.

Martinez pinch hit for the pitcher in the top of the 8th and got a hit (double), scoring Quintero.

Yep, got a hit & scored a run. He's now racked up at least one hit in 8 of his first 9 ML games (including two 3-hit outings).

If winning was everything, Mills would not start Happ. The team is not in win mode; they are in player development mode.

Prior to tonight, Rodriguez had only give up 1 run in his past 6 games. Did you also ask why Happ continues to start?

    Altuve is hitting .371 (13-35).

JD is hitting 1.000 with a 2.000 SLG

    To major:
Perfect example tonight of why defense is important. The astros give up 6 runs. 3 were earned, and the rest were fielding errors.

It'd be 3-2 if not for those errors with the astros having a chance to win the game.

Both Altuve and Martinez are/were much better prospects in the minors, with much better statistical performance and much better scouting reports, than CJ ever was. CJ was essentially a non-prospect when he came up last year and got lucky with tons of hits on balls put in play.
