More on Luis Ordosgoitti's apparent demotion... looks like he was placed on the 7-day DL. Also joining him on the DL is Jio Mier.

JD Martinez went deep again tonight, that was the one part of his offensive game that was missing and now it appears that has been addressed. He will never be more then average on defense but he sure can hit.

Why are Nelson Figueroa and Brad Hennessey taking up rotation spots in OKC? Seriously.

OKC, despite getting 13 hits tonight, was blasted by Nashville 13-2, as they allowed the Sounds to score in every inning except the 9th. Anderson Hernandez went 4-5. Drew Locke drove in the only run. Nelson Figueroa allowed 9 runs on 10 hits (2 2-run homers to the same guy, Taylor Green) in 5 innings, walking 3 and fanning 3. Oh, but he did score the other run.

Corpus found themselves trailing San Antonio 5-0 entering the bottom of the 4th. The Hooks answered with 6, then added 1 more in the 5th on the way to a 7-5 win. J.D. Martinez smacked a 3-run homer in the 4th, his 13th. JVO hit 2 solo homers, 1 in the 4th, and the other in the 5th. He has 11 on the year. Jimmy Paredes went 4-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Ross Seaton allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 3 2/3, walking 2 and failing to record a strikeout. Arcenio Leon pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win, allowing a hit, a walk, and striking out 1. Jason Stoffel got his 2nd save with Corpus, 15th overall, walking 1 in the 9th.

In a day game :)eek:), Lancaster was pounded 10-3 by San Jose. David Flores had a solo homer, his 9th with the Jethawks and 13th on the year. Andrew Simunic and Adam Bailey drove in the other 2 runs. Bailey went 0-2, but drew 3 walks. Zach Grimmett allowed 7 runs on 10 hits (2 2-run homers) in 5 2/3, walking 2 and striking out 2.

Lexington took out Rome 7-5 in the series opener. The Braves scored 2 in the 7th and 8th to make it look interesting. Telvin Nash hit his 9th homer, a solo shot in the 4th. Roberto Pena added a 2-run homer in the 6th, his 4th. Emilio King and Ben Heath added 1 RBI each. Luis Cruz went 6 1/3, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), striking out 9.

Tri-City scored 8 in the 1st on their way to a 9-5 win over State College. Every ValleyCat that faced Stetson Allie reached base. Matt Duffy went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Kellen Kiilsgaard had 2 RBI. 4 others drove in 1 apiece, led by Neiko Johnson. Brandon Meredith went 0-1, but drove in a run himself, walked twice, and scored twice. Euris Quezada didn't last much longer, going 1 2/3, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walking 4 and fanning 1. Dayan Diaz got the victory in relief, pitching 3 2/3, allowing a run on 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 7. Diaz, a 22-year-old Colombian, missed all of 2009 and a huge swath of 2010 due to injury. He spent 2006-2008 at the now-defunct Venezuelan Academy.

Greeneville doubled up Kingsport 6-3. Ernesto Genoves went solo in the 2nd, his 3rd. Chase Davidson hit a 2-run homer in the 5th, his 9th. It was his first homer since last Monday, 7 games ago. Jesse Wierzbicki and Ariel Ovando drove in 1 each. Jordan Scott went 3-4 and scored a run. He's now hitting .336 with Greeneville, and I thought he held his own in a 14-game stint with Lexington. So, between 2 levels (49 games total), he's hitting .321/.377/.374 with 60 hits (8 doubles, a triple) and 24 RBI. Jamaine Cotton was the winner, going 5, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits (solo homer), walking 1 and striking out 1. Can't wait for Adrian Houser's debut.

The Gulf Coasters were off today.

The Academy fell 4-3 to the Mets. Teoscar Hernandez had a 2-run homer (scoring Yoel Silfa), his 5th. For the umpteenth time, I think he's certainly put himself in a position to come to Greeneville, or at least the Gulf Coast club, with his play this season. Andru Sierra scored the other run. Ambiorix De Leon allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 6, walking 2 and striking out 4. Alex Martinez allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, and walked 1 in the 7th to get the loss.

Who knows. I'm not going to try to defend that, but I'm guessing they're doing it because those are the two guys they would call up in case a pitcher on the big club goes on the 15 day DL. Those two are known commodities, even if what is known is that they aren't very good.

As of right now , Ovando is 2 for 4 with 4 rbi and a triple and Davidson is 4 for 4 .. those two are putting on a show this year.

Please take a wild guess as to who will be taking Hunter Pence's spot on the roster.

OKC had 5 guys drive in 1 run each in a 5-3 win over Nashville. The 2 most notable of the 5 tonight were Collin DeLome, who had a pinch-hit solo homer in the 6th, his 5th of the season. Luis Durango, on the other hand went 4-5. Andy Van Hekken, who turns 32 on Sunday, gave himself a victory as an early birthday present, going 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 3 and fanning 6. He also contributed an RBI.

Well, it should come as no surprise that our man J.D. Martinez got the long-awaited call to Houston. In his sendoff, which Corpus lost 3-2 to Midland, he went 0-2 with an RBI before being removed in the 3rd for Jacob Goebbert. Kody Hinze had an RBI single. Erick Abreu allowed 3 runs on 8 hits (solo homer) in 7 innings, walking 3 and striking out 4.

Lancaster got 7 in the 1st, capped by an Andrew Simunic grand slam (his 1st homer of the year) on their way to an 8-5 win over San Jose. 4 others drove in 1 each, led by Jose Thompson, who went 2-5. Robby Donovan allowed 3 runs on 2 hits in 5 innings, because he walked 5 and only struck out 2. Nevertheless, he got the victory.

Looks like Jonathan Singleton will be assigned to Lancaster.

Jason Gonzalez, retweeted by Astros County:

Lexington and Rome were tied at 2 after 2 innings. That's how it stood until the top of the 10th, when the Braves put 4 on the board, leading to a 6-2 defeat for the Legends. Delino DeShields drove in the only run. He went 1-3, stole his 25th base, and his average is now at .231. He and Ben Orloff scored the runs. Carlos Quevedo allowed 2 unearned runs in the 1st, which were the only runs he gave up in 6 1/3. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and fanned 5. Juan Minaya allowed 3 of the 4 runs in the 10th to get the loss, getting 2 outs in the process.

A show of power in Troy, as the ValleyCats used 4 homers to dispose of State College 8-1 in a game marred by rain delays. Matt Duffy went solo in the 2nd, John Hinson also went solo in the 3rd, Drew Muren had a 2-run shot in the 4th, and Miles Hamblin finished it with a 2-run shot of his own in the 7th. Muren finished with 3 RBI. Kyle Hallock allowed 5 hits in 2 1/3, striking out 1. He left due to a 55-minute delay which suspended the game in the 3rd. Adam Champion took his place, and pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing a solo homer (the only hit and run he allowed), walking 2, and fanning 3.

Ariel Ovando went 2-5 with a triple and 4 RBI, and Chase Davidson finished 5-5 (all singles) with 3 RBI and scored twice, as Greeneville took out Kingsport 13-7. Ernesto Genoves went 3-5 with a double, 2 RBI, and scored twice, and Jose Monzon and Josh Magee drove in 1 each. Chris Lee allowed 7 runs on 8 hits (2-run homer) in 3 1/3, walking 3 and striking out 3. Danilo Del Rio got the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings of relief, walking 2 and fanning 1.

5 guys drove in 1 run each for the Gulf Coast club as they beat the Nationals 5-2. Chris Epps hit his 4th homer, a solo shot in the 5th. Javaris Reynolds went 2-3 with an RBI double, scored twice, and stole 2nd and 3rd to give him 12 steals on the year. RRS was rehabbing, and he allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 3 innings, striking out 4. Pedro Gomez pitched 2 shutout innings for the win, walking 3 and striking out 1.

The Academy got 10 hits, but fell 4-1 to the A's. Marlon Avea had the lone RBI. Luis Abad didn't allow a hit in 4 innings, but allowed 2 runs, walked 4, and fanned 3.

Whoops, forgot about Zeid. He'll follow Cosart to Corpus. Looks like Ken Rosenthal chimed in with this...

He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2009 Draft out of Tulane by Philly. He originally played at Vanderbilt. Zeid went from low-A to Double-A this year. He's alternating between starter and reliever after being exclusively a starter in his senior year of college and short-season ball. Starter numbers are not very good. 2-3 with a 6.80 ERA. He allowed 7 homers in 47 2/3, walked 25, and struck out 32. Actually, because of those numbers, he was taken out of the rotation. His last 10 games for Reading were all in relief, and he posted a 2.25 ERA in 16 innings, allowing 10 hits (2 homers), walking 2, and striking out 24.

OKC was down 4-0 to Omaha, then rallied to tie the game with 4 in the 4th, then the Storm Chasers scored 1 in the top of the 7th for a 5-4 defeat of the Redhawks. Luis Durango drove in the first run on an RBI single, and Brian Bogusevic cleared the bases with a double. Sergio Perez went 4 2/3, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4.

Dallas Keuchel had shut down Midland, holding them to 1 hit entering the bottom of the 7th. At that point, Corpus had a 2-0 lead. Then, the wheels completely fell off. Keuchel allowed 3 straight singles, the last one an RBI single. After getting the first out, Keuchel left the game, and Dan Meszaros took his place, inheriting runners at 1st and 2nd. Meszaros allowed both of those runners to score, setting the wheels in motion for a 6-run 7th inning with gave the Rockhounds a 6-2 lead. The Hooks answered with 3, but they wound up falling 6-5. Dallas Keuchel was tagged with the loss. In 6 1/3, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and fanned 5. Jose Vallejo drove in 2, and Jonathan Villar, Chris Wallace, and Jacob Goebbert drove in 1 each.

Lancaster tried to rally, but ultimately fell short, losing 4-3 to San Jose. Jose Thompson and Jonathan Meyer provided the RBIs; Miguel Arrendell scored the other run when David Flores reached on an error. Jake Buchanan allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings, walking 1 and striking out 5.

After Rome scored 1 in the top of the 8th to break a 4-4 tie, Lexington responded with 1 in the bottom of the inning to re-tie the game, which would remain tied at 5 until the 12th, when the Braves put up 2. The Legends answered with 3 for the 8-7 win. Two players made their way back from the Gulf Coast League for Lexington today. Dan Adamson, who missed about a month and a half, was back in center field. Batting 8th, he had a 2-run single in the 4th for his only hit. Tanner Bushue also returned, making his first start for the Legends since June 11. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings, striking out 3. Mike Kvasnicka went 4-5, doubled twice, scored twice, and had an RBI. Delino DeShields went 3-7 with 2 RBI, bringing his average up to .235. Roberto Pena was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 12th, sending Jay Austin home with the winning run. Jorge De Leon allowed both runs in the 12th, but walked off a winner.

Tri-City allowed Auburn to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th, breaking a 3-3 tie, and the ValleyCats would lose 4-3. Matt Duffy went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Ryan McCurdy drove in the other. Nick Tropeano allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings, walking 3 and striking out 6. Mitchell Lambson allowed the run in the 9th, which was unearned. That was the lone blemish in his 2 2/3 innings of relief, in which he allowed 2 hits and struck out 5. But alas, that blemish ended up costing the ValleyCats the game.

TCV Fan's assessment of Mitchell Lambson, from Wednesday:

In Adrian Houser's debut, Greeneville was held to 4 hits. On the other hand, they used a 7-run 7th to beat Princeton 9-5. Jose Vargas smashed a grand slam for the cherry. That was his first homer of the year. Ariel Ovando had 2 RBI; one on a groundout, and the other from walking with the bases loaded. Ruben Sosa had the other RBI on a groundout. Houser went 4 2/3, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. Matison Smith got the win in relief, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer) in 2 1/3, walking and striking out 2.

The Gulf Coasters fell 5-2 to the Marlins. Justin Shults hit his 2nd homer of the year, a solo shot in the 5th. Yonathan Mejia drove in the other run in the 8th. Freddy Tiburcio was doomed in the 3rd, when he allowed 4 runs. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in 5, walking 2 and striking out 4.

    The Academy was postponed.

Where do you guys think the Astros farm system ranks after all these trades?

Singleton and Cosart are top 50 in every prospect ranking I've seen, top 25 in a few.

Paul Clemens will probably be in the top 100 next year with the solid season he's had and his live arm.

If Deshields Jr. keeps showing that he can hit and gets his average up to .250-.260 range with 10 HR and 35 SB I could see him squeeking into the top 100.

Ovando has done pretty well in his first season to this point. It can only be up from here, and scouts seem to love his potential. Top 50 with a good showing in Greeneville?

Adrian Houser has looked very solid so far, and assuming Springer signs they should both be considered for top 100 lists.

So potentially 7 top 100 prospects? That's not counting Folty who I like a lot and Villar who could cut down the K's as he matures and be a true 5 tool SS.

Would this as an organization boost us into the top 10 systems in baseball?

no, probably not in top 10. Graduate Lyles Altuve and Martinez from the 27th best farm system. Add springer singleton and Cosart. Rest of top picks from last few years are doing poorly. I think you're a little optimistic on where some of these guys will rank. I'd think Springer Singleton and Cosart are the only top 100 prospects they'll have going into the offseason. I'd think mid-teens at best and low twenties at worst.

None of the braves other prospects even made our top 10. In fact, only the braves JT, made the top 50 prospects list. Degado and visciano didn't make the list.

Cosart and singleton both made the list. 37, 38 respectively, and they also have Altuve in the top 5 SS in all of the minors.

They haven't updated the Astros top 10 since the Bourn trade. Paul Clemens will clearly be in the top 10. So will Brett Oberholtzer likely.

Clemens is still on the Braves list that I see.
