Well this is just one piece. The reds could also give up Corcino in the deal. Corcino and Frazier would be a coup. But I doubt that the reds what to put Frazier in a deal since he is slated to back up the injury-prone scott rolen.
Why is it that the astros are all the sudden unreasonable. We whiffed on the oswalt deal bigtime, so yeah I'd say we want fair return this time around. Yet all I hear is that the astros are being pricks for not doing the first deal that comes along.
While I'm frustrated that the Astros haven't dealt Pence yet, I'm starting to understand it from the team's perspective. With Beltran being moved, the price of Pence has gone up. The Astros are content to wait around until Sunday and collect offers on Pence. There is always some team you don't expect that swoops in at the 11th hour to try to grab him. With the Phillies seemingly (to use a poker term) "pot committed" on Pence, you get the feeling that they will be able to come back to any number of deals for Pence to the Phillies.
There is no guarantee that Gose gets it together. I realise that he is young for his level, but his stat line for the year is pretty brutal. Slugging under .400 w/ 109 k's in 379 AB's, for instance.
Pence is a more valuable trade chip during the winter meetings. More teams would be willing to get in on a deal. Hold onto him.
“@SI_JonHeyman: pence very likely to be moved now. appears #phillies are favored. #indians join #redsox, #reds in. #tradedeadline”
No. The stove is at the right temperature right now. Dont want it to cool off one bit. How many teams chasing him isnt near as important as how much the leading one wants him.
why on earth would they let pence play tonight or tomorrow? what's the harm in sitting him for 2 games, and sticking him back in sunday if he somehow doesn't get traded?
i guess that would make more sense if the phillies were the only team bidding on him, but they aren't.
