fools gold would be monta ellis, he's probably the closest to a literal definition that the nba currently has
I would rather have Ellis than Martin...Ellis can do more with the ball in his hands. I would hope they flip KMart for that elusive superstar, while I like his game, he is an uber complimentary piece and we have nothing for him to compliment. His contract is reasonable, he is coming off an injury free year, and his production on offense is really attractive to teams, so I hope Morey uses that to net us a young up and coming player with Superstar potential. DD
An excellent point, with Chase guaranteed to reach Kobe like status in the NBA, there might be no need, in fact we could just play Chase 1 on 5 and win most games. DD
Like i have said a few times before, if you were to surround Martin with a few more good two way players like Lowry and Chuck, then have a decent center to go along with those players, you would have a pretty good contending team. For instance, replace Chase with a SF who can score and defend well. Then a center like Dalembert, Jordan or Gasol would do. I am hoping that T Will can be that SF that i speak of.
when he starts getting rebounds, assists, and playing defense we can call him a star. he's too one dimensional and that's why he's no more than a solid starter and scoring option (albeit a very good scoring option).
Well, basically you need a team like the Pistons back then, which requires quite a bit of luck to build and players to grow.
Who has ever scored 50 points on him? You just throw out numbers and emote to make a point. Go to 82games.com and check the season stats. While Martin is scoring 22.4 points, he's giving up 13.1. While he's playing shooting guard, it's 22.2 to 12.8. In fact, in per minute points allowed, Martin trails only Harris, Dragic, and Lee. (and it's almost a wash with Lee) These stats certainly don't come close to telling the whole story. But it certainly isn't true that they're scoring 50 every game while he's scoring 30! But . . . when Kevin Martin is in the game, Houston wins the shooting guard match-up by an average of over nine points a game over the entire season.
Do you all actually watch the games, or do you just bandwagon on Martin's defense sucks fantasy? It's NOT THAT BAD. He's probably only slightly below average as a defender. If we had shotblockers, you might notice that his defense might even be above average. Also...scoring makes you a role-player? SCORING IS THE POINT OF THE GAME STATNERDS!
Kevin Mart looks like a little kid playing post D Love his scoring ability, however, this dude wants no part of being tough and playing lock down D. Which anyone with a memory will always remember MadMax and Mario playing tough D. Between Chase and Martin we two very soft Defenders. Also, I remember Shawn Marion posting him up and Kevin Mart looking like he's taking a beating and he's on defense. LOL!!!
This is rather funny is a very ironic way. It's the players who try to act like superstars but don't really have it that are fool's gold. Martin doesn't try to be more than what he is, which is where a lot of his value comes from. Monta tries to be a superstar, but doesn't have it, which is why Monta pulls his team down.
