HouCounterplot The Counterplot by AstrosCounty #PenceWatch2011: Astros want Julio Teheran or Mike Minor but the Braves are offering an erotic photo of Otis Nixon. Wade is mulling it over.
Well lets see. The Braves are 5 back from the Philly's. If the Philly's upgrade and Atlanta doesnt, closing that gap becomes that much harder. Even if Atlanta doesnt win the division, they are almost a lock for the wildcard. Either Atlanta is waiting to see if the Philly's pull out on this trade deal, in which case they can move in with a lesser offer. Or, they feel confident enough in getting the wild card, and taking their chances with that.
I only mentioned Singleton because of the debate a few pages back of choosing Brown over Singleton becauce Brett Wallace already has first base which is I think is a poor position.
i agree. i think the deal with philly happens...but i wouldn't give up a pitcher like that, if i were the braves, to HOPE to catch Philly this season. edit: SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman #astros prefer to do pence deal wi/ #braves, but atl very protective of bigtime pitching prospects. #phillies working on it
“@SI_JonHeyman: #astros prefer to do pence deal wi/ #braves, but atl very protective of bigtime pitching prospects. #phillies working on it” I think the Phillies might actually give us 3 of thier top 5 prospects for Pence, AMAZING.
Well it isn't just about making the playoffs, and when you two closest competition, the phillies and the giants upgrade significantly and you are holding on to more pitchers than you can actually play and develop, I dummo. If the braves don't put it a significant deal they might as well wave the white flag.
Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal #Astros still playing Pence market, trying to drag in other teams besides #Phillies. #tradedeadline #MLB
i don't understand why the hell they would want him so badly. i love the guy, but damn...his ceiling is a pretty good ballplayer. oh well, i ain't complaining.
If I got this right, the wildcard has to play the division winner with the best record first. That is likely to be Philly given there 4.5 game lead over SF, and 9 game lead over the Brewers. Although they have split the 12 games vs Philly this year, they have been outscored 49-37 in those games. http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/head2head.cgi?teams=ATL&from=2011&to=2011&submit=Submit
The Phillies picked a PERFECT time to drop two of three at home to the Giants, and to look bad offensively while doing it. Their fans are getting restless. Pence is the answer, even though he's merely good. Awesome.
Wildcard winner won't play team from same division. If Braves get the wildcard they don't face Phillies in the first round.
I see. So if the pecking order stays where it is, in the 1st round, it would be: Atlanta vs S.F. Philly vs Milwaukee I see Atlanta having a tougher time than Philly here.
These are the type of deals you were supposed to get for an all star pitcher like i don't know...ROY FREAKING O! ugh.
from MLBTR: Jayson Stark just reported on 97.5 that the Phillies and Astros are looking for a three team deal. Phillies offered Domonic Brown, but the Astros don't like him. The Astros would rather trade Domonic Brown to another team. Stark is saying the Phillies are the last team standing. The Braves offered a huge package but were shot down. The Braves are moving on. Basically, we're looking at a situation where Domonic + goes to the Astros and the Astros flip him to another team for even more prospects. I absolutely love this idea, but why the rush to trade brown immediately? take the trade while its on the table, and worry about trading brown after the season if you can't before sunday.
By "Dont like him", im guessing that means they dont want there top prize to be a OF. Looking for pitching?
