Whats wrong with something more realistic? It's certainly more enjoyable for me.

What a difference a trailer makes...

I was actually going to try to catch this in the theaters but after seeing the new trailer I will definitely be watching this. Adding the emotional element makes it seem so much better. I can tell that once again, the majority of audiences will be rooting against the humans ala Avatar. Either way it will keep me entertained.

From a guy who enjoyed every single turd of a movies. At least some people know what makes a good and a bad movie but your taste/support in movies are the reason why they keep on making those turds.

    I agree.

That's why movies like this are often much better in theory than in practice, but I guess they have to work with what they've got. One thing I really dislike about CGI is the way sudden movements still look very unnatural. Especially jumping, or lunging.

Just got back from the red carpet premiere and the movie was pretty dang good. It was actually satisfying that there was no real "corniness" to it like the the 2001 movie.

I won't say much now on phone will spoiler review later but the scene in the trailer where Franco is driving and making a u turn with the windows exploding behind him didn't make the final cut.

    ok

personally i thought the cgi was really well done, serkis did the motion for ceasar much like how they did gollum for the LOTR movies. i mean you know its cgi but its still very realistic i think there was one scene only where i felt the cgi was noticeably worse than the rest of the film

the scene at the end of the movie when Buck is attacking the helicopter and the copter crashes there is an orangutan that gets effected by one of the subsequent exploding cars that looks weird but for the most part the rest was good

the story was better than I thought it gave plausible cause as to why the apes and chimps were intelligent and why ceasar was smarter than the others and was their leader

ceasar mother was actually injected with the alz-112 and the virus was passed down to ceasar so he developing much faster since birth while the rest were exposed later on they were smarter but did not have the same sort of cognitive reasoning skills as ceasar. one thing i noticed and i thought was smart was that ceasar never gave Buck - the gorilla - any of the alz-113 (new strain and more aggressive) virus since the gorilla was the strongest and biggest he could have easily taken over later but instead he fell in line like a soldier for ceasar

overall it was well done I would give it a 7.5-8/10

the movie is set up for a future sequel if needed but at the same time there doesnt need to be a sequel since it can be easily extrapolated what happens

    Thanks for the review.

After watching the international trailer, this is one of the movies I am most excited about seeing. I hope it does not disappoint.

Have you seen it? Give us a review without spoilers, please... your post seems to not have any substance.

I think it looks like it sucks, too, but I haven't seen it.

its pretty good IMO you should see it SwoLy-D though I do not recall seeing a single mexican actor or actress in the film.

i dont think it can compare too much to any of the originals since this movie is the story of how the apes/primates etc came about to being the dominant species on Earth and not mankind.

As a side note I am glad to see Freida Pinto get some more roles in movies we need to bring over more of the Indian beauties in Hollywood

Hmmm... I liked the original series but wouldn't mind seeing this "prequel." I'm glad my daughters are so interested, since we recorded last night's FX showing of the 4:3 Mark Wahlberg version.

Hey, you know what, there's a MEXICAN in the original Star Wars movies!

    Wanna guess?
    His name is... http://laugh-it-up-fuzzball.tumblr.com/post/6785370141/gingerann-chewie-and-han
    Chewie!
[IMG]Sounds like "Chuy", short for "Jesus"! ;)

But I don't really care if the have Mexicans in movies... I just want good actors no matter what. Some Indian chicks are hot!

Gee, I wonder what happens in this movie? :p

I will watch this on Netflix streaming in a few months. Can't wait. lol

This just feels like they are trying to create better looking apes (as if to say we learned better ways to do apes as a basis for doing a new film) wrapped around a re-hash of the original with new ape violence (e.g. ape jumps from bridge onto helicopter to attack pilot) in a current world setting.

If it is more than that, then count me as surprised.

Who knows...in several hundred years maybe apes will be smart enough to play their own parts in future remakes? lol

it's not a complete re-hash of the original. How the apes came about is very different from the originals

I've been thinking about this flick, being a fan of the Planet of the Apes films, especially the first one, which I consider a SF classic, and it's kind of hard for me to get excited about watching the destruction of human civilization by the apes. Sure, I'll see it and will most likely like it a lot, but the premise is a bit depressing. What was great about the original Heston film was the ambiguity surrounding the "rise of the apes," and "the fall of man." Does everything have to be spelled out? I guess so.

I agree with you but in the end it's all about money for the studios.

The general buzz aroound this is very good so for me, it's a case of if they must revisit the franchise at least make it worthwhile for fans.

The originals could afford to do the ambiguity angle because they were the original. With the 2001 re-make, it wouldn't make sense for them to tell that story again.

It would be impossible for them to re-create that feeling you got after watching the first one

At least the apes aren't "Congo" bad. Though I must admit the hippos in that movie were impressive. Actually those hippos were the last time I was amazed by the SFX in any film.
