-They played together in 2 games, and the Texans gave up a combined 65 points in those games. -Cushing only played 2 games at MLB.
You forgot about Kubiak. His boneheadedness has left more than his fair share of wins on the field. Half back pass against JAX, not running the damn ball last season in Indy.
On paper, yes. Seriously, I expect our pass rush to be top five in the league this year. No reason for it not to be. Cushing, Reed, Barwin, Watt, Antonio, Mario, and Demeco can all get to the quarterback. I'm just cringing with excitement at Mario coming full speed off the edge and nailing Peyton in between the numbers in week one. Seriously, on paper with the names we have, and decent coverage by the secondary, this defense should be in the upper half of the league. Should be. I expect big things from Earl Mitchell. And I'm not even going to start on the offense. If we make the playoffs, we can make some noise.
Oh I'm still doubting you Gary. Only you could find a way to screw the amount of talent the Texans have up. We'll see. Hoping for the best.
This is their best shot. Have to hope the offensive inconsistency was more of a fluke. The defense has to be better by default, but there's a chance it might actually be...gulp...above average to good? If Wade generates a pass rush that is legit this team should make the playoffs.

The Texans have 3-4 new starters on defense (Watt, Joseph, Manning, and maybe Reed), 4 starters changing position on defense (Williams, Barwin, Quin, Cushing), 2 players coming back from long times off (Barwin and Ryans), a new defensive coordinator with a new scheme, and a short training camp. I have zero confidence that they will start strong. I think the team has positioned itself well for the future, but it might start pretty bad.

From 6-10 to 10-6 is too great a leap to expect here IMO. I don't expect them to sweep Jacksonville & Tennessee. Those division games are always tough. I also expect them to split with Indianapolis which leaves them at 9-7. Don't know if that is good enough to make the playoffs.
I see the defense starting out slow but then being pretty sweet by midseason. I think from week 9 and on, we'll be pretty dominant as a team.
10-6 I think we sweep Indy by luck really if nothing else. We get them week 1 when Manning will be adjusting to a new roster and coming off injury and we get them week 16 where I expect us to be playing very well and dying for a playoff spot. I think we win 6 of our last 7 games to go 10-6 and have to hope that gets us in. 5-5 at the bye week. Anything better than that and we are in really good shape as the schedule REALLY loosens up after the bye. I expect a lot of panic after the first part of the season where I project us to lose 5 of 6 games to be 3-5.
It's possible they struggle, but two of the first three games are against pass heavy offenses that run multiple WR sets. That means we'll be playing a lot in the more traditional nickel, with 4 lineman. That's what I've heard about Wade's scheme anyway. Besides, it can't be any worse than we were last year and we were competitive in most games.
