Yea but Kolb is not a great decision maker. Cardinals will regret this. Orton was ripe for the picking.
1) Arizona is showing complete desperation to give that much up for Kolb, and signing him to that ridiculous contract, even if only $20 mil is guaranteed. Hopefully it pans out for them. If not, uh oh. But Kolb has a top 2-3 WR at his disposal so hopefully he'll do relatively well. 2) Eagles are making out like bandits so far in this FA so far. My friend just texted me that there is a rumor floating around that VY might be going to the Eagles???? I'm perplexed at that rumor b/c doesn't he want to start? But then, only Oakland is showing any interest in the guy right now. It's a frenzy right now. Loving it.
How are they showing desperation? He was the best QB that was available. He's got the tools and players around him to lock up the NFC west and make a deep playoff run.
Kolb's contract extension is only slightly less than the deal Aaron Rodgers got from Green Bay after spending all those years rotting behind Favre.
Kolb has had just more than a handful of starts in his entire career. Even last year, his TD/INT ratio and QB rating were pretty damn mediocre, and went 2-3 for the Eagles. For him to get paid more than $10 mil/year (although only $20 guaranteed), and the Cards giving up a 2nd round pick AND a young Pro Bowl CB, that's showing desperation in terms of needing a QB. Kolb isn't worth ALL of that, based on his track record. The Packers had been grooming Rodgers though, and he was the heir eventually to that QB position. They had to pay Rodgers to make sure he was happy in GB after rotting behind Farve like you said. Also, the Packers didn't have to give up draft picks and a former Pro Bowler along with the contract. The Cards gave up a ton to get Kolb. Nevertheless, I wish Kolb and the Cards well b/c I don't want Larry to leave AZ, and wish them success.
