From Manish: TheJetsStream Manish Mehta One #Jets source tells me this about Nnamdi Asomugha talks: "We're trying to get an answer out of him, one way or another." #nyj * Sounds like Aso is on the fence. It's time for bob to slip in two more million per year and it's over.
i can go back a lot farther than you, because i'm an old man. and it's not just reserved for the rockets and texans...the astros as well.
Off topic, but I'm almost certain that was complete bull**** (Beltran's excuse). The way it worked, Boras came in during literally the last hour of negotiations (after supposedly working for 2+ months at this) and dropped the no-trade demand on the Astros. It was well known that the Astros had an organizational policy against this, and if it were an issue, Boras/Beltran had plenty of time to let the Astros know and think about it. imo (and this is the opinion of most around the Astros), Boras waited until the last hour to mention that "demand" to give Beltran a good public relations excuse as to why he ultimately left after stringing Houston along for months. Also, the story I have says the Astros top offer was right around seven years, $105 million. Ultimately, the contract he signed with the Mets was for 7/119. Did it come out later that we offered $112? http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/topstory/2984377.html
I'm trying to decide which FAIL pic to post when the inevitable happens. Helps temper my expectations and keep me occupied. Which do you guys like better? OR
THANK YOU MR. MCCLAIN, YOUR LOGIC IS UNPARALLELED. I never would have thought that cap room is the reason we are trading them.
anything with Richard Dawson makes me laugh. his sarcastic, "NOT THERE!!!" when someone would guess wrong on that show is laughable, in and of itself.
The Astros got Kent, Clemens, Pettite, etc to sign here. Drexler and Barkley wanted to come to Houston. AJ could have left but didn't. Houston ain't that bad. I think we land Cromartie or Joseph if Aso chooses NY. That's a good backup plan. I remember reading all the negativity about the Texans not even trying, which was pretty annoying. People forget that Mcnair has spent. Just not wisely.
Is McClain the John Madden of sports in Houston. Everything that is said is known as well as common sense.
Agreed; probably means that if Aso is using the Texans' offer as leverage the Jets are replying, "this is it, our best and final offer, take it or leave it." Hope that means they're below where the Texans are today and aren't moving up. If it's about getting paid, maybe we'll get to see Nnamdi in Battle Red, Liberty White, and Deep Steel Blue this year.
oh em gee, sammy. i'm just saying, i don't see such an influx of free agents to support the idea that the property tax thing is nearly the advantage we, as houston fans, like to believe it is. i love houston...i'm a 4th generation houstonian...you don't need to try to convince me that houston ain't that bad.
@Cat -- I remember the offers being $107MM and $114MM respectively; but it appears I remember incorrectly. Also, I remember the story about Boras swooping in with that demand, and while I can certainly see Boras pulling a stunt like that, I don't believe Beltran ever cared about any public image in Houston. From what I can remember, he didn't like all the trade talk swirling around him in '04 and he wanted a "commitment" from his new team. Ironic, considering today's events.
Probably a 6th I would guess. They got a 6th for Travis Johnson and in my opinion Okoye was better of the two. Plus he is only 24 years old so some team might think a change of scenery might help.
Didn't they say they would focus on Nnamdi for 12-14 hours, if so it is time to move on, you already lost Brad Smith
Not free agent related, but what did Lance Z say about Mario and the Texans locker room this morning?
It's not just the state income tax. It's the low cost of living. It has to play a major part in FA. It doesn't always come down to it (Bosh, LBJ, and Wade) but like The Cat pointed out, it's something that majority of athletes take into account. The Rockets and Texans haven't had money to spend. That's the bottomline.
