IMO I still have Texans have 3rd unless 49ers agree not to match our offer and declare out the Nnamdi chase. I don't know the guy personally and no one here does, if NYJ said they wouldn't match then and Nnamdi wants the most money like the agent hopes then Nnamdi would have signed with us already.
Didn't see this earlier... Lombardi now has a full-out story (following up on his tweet) on the NFL.com home page. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...omugha-sweepstakes?module=HP11_headline_stack
Well then that would be dumb on the Texans part... as essentially, they'd be bidding against themselves.
Which happens ALL THE TIME in free agency. Aso is the market setter. He has no risk of losing leverage. if Joseph signs before him for some reason (let's say 49ers) he loses one suitor but adds another (bengals) He will wait until his agent believes there is no more money to get. Then they will pick a team. That doesn't mean he is going to pick the highest offer though, it just means he's not going to leave money on the table with whatever team he signs with. If it is the Texans he wants every dollar they have to give. If it's the Jets he wants every dollar they have to give.
Just for example. Let's pretend he and his agent have decided they will sign with the Texans. Hooray! Texans have offered $12 million per. His agent has looked at their books and thinks they could go to $15 per. Why would they sign now? Make the team sweat until you think they've given you all they can. Play up the Jets or the 49ers as realistic landing spots, even preferable. Texans panic, up their offer again and then he signs.
Because if NYJ told him the max they could offer him is 10 million atm, I believe he would have signed with us already. I still believe Nnamdi is going to the Jets and their people are making salary restructures. I just get the feeling we are being used as leverage again.
I think you're giving all parties involved too much credit. I agree this is what can normally happen... but in this truncated "all-in" free agency week, things are happening with a little bit more purpose. I agree with the above post. Nnamdi got his offer from the Texans, and now he's giving the Jets a chance to get close. If they do, he goes there... if not, he signs here. There's too much at stake right now $$$ wise, especially when the bidding is between teams that really don't have all that much $$$ without major restructuring. There's definitely no premise for an agent to be able to say "we think you can pay more" at this point.
Why? Contracts can't be signed until tomorrow. Until then he has time to play typical FA negotiation tactics.
Man i hate to say it but i feel the same way. It feels like Carlos Beltran all over again. And again its to new york. I really hope i'm wrong but if I am i just don't understand why he hasnt signed with us yet.
can you imagine if we signed asomugha and on opening game when they are announcing the starters and everyone tries to scream his last name....lol
Ditto. I'm supposed to be packing before I have to go to work in 3 hrs. I move in less than 3 days.....and I haven't started packing yet.
Could be the fact that they might still be negotiating other aspects of the contract. Remember this tweet appeared earlier today shortly before all hell broke loose: Link: https://twitter.com/#!/PaulGrecoRadio/status/96566806914928641
Dunta for 6 years at $57 million or Asomugha at $12-14 mil a year, I would DEFINITELY take Asomugha every day of the week.
Give them credit, but it's not about how many yards you rack up it's about about punching it in the end zone at the end of the drive.
