I bet on the Texans ONLY because of Schaub. Getting a good QB is the hardest thing in the NFL to pull off and the Skins have struggled big time to nail it.
I just think we see too many fluke seasons out of defensive linemen where they reach great numbers during contract years but fail to produce once they receive long term deals aka the Bonzi Wellses of the NFL.
haynesworth to the pats for a 5th is scary if haynesworth actually gets motivated. Good move by the pats on the risk reward. I have a feeling that they will get him to play.
There are few teams that are harder to be a fan of than the Texans, but the Redskins have to be one of them. They are the complete opposite of the Texans in that they bank their entire livelihood on free agency. Then they end up with a bunch of over the hill, overpaid, and unmotivated veterans. Brandon Stokley backed out on his agreement. I wonder if the Texans are holding off of "agreeing to terms" with anyone so that they can do it when it is official on Friday.
The Redskins are always active in free agency, it never gets them anywhere. You cant build that way in the NFL, it just doesn't work. See exhibit A: the Redskins...
They usually sign old guys and character problem guys. But, their history is not proof you can't build that way, their history is further proof that it's hard to win in the NFL without a QB. QB is the one position that you can almost never address in FA.
Im glad Eric Weddle resigned with the Chargers , he was an essential piece of last yr's #1 ranked Defense.
QB aside, there are studies out there that reveal you simply cannot build a defense through free agency. You have to do it through the draft.
Over five years, I can deal with that. I just didn't want some monster contract like Johnson got in Carolina.
I don't think it affects them at all. The Eagles don't usually deal with holdouts and are not afraid to trade or let anybody go. I don't think they're leaning toward that but I think it would be in Jackson's best interest to show up and go through the motions and then get a deal done. That's how the Eagles front office works. Although Jackson is an explosive player, who can make big plays and give headaches to opposing coaches, he's not one of the better wide receivers in the game in my opinion. I'm not saying he is average but any team with a good defense and/or defensive plan can stop him or make him a non-factor.
The players were mixed on Haynesworth, but generally weren't in love with how either side was going about things. The vets did not take a shine to McNabb being thrown under the bus late in the season. Yes 1) Most of my childhood was in VA and I despised the Redskins. Still do. 2) Snyder's ridiculous visionless teambuilding approach is horrid 3) 20 QBs in the last 15 years? I'm pretty sure that's close. 4) As noted, they really haven't been better than the Texans of late. And seeing as a ton of my friends are big Skins fans, I'm keenly aware of their win/loss record and status. 5) The Colts make life hard on us, but they look up and see the Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys. I've got hope we might take our division in a down year for Indy. The Skins? LOL. 6) We may want to choke Kubiak, McNair, and Smith...but the hatred DC fans have had towards Snyder and his right hand guy (forget his name) GM is well beyond. Not to be mean, but Josh Wilson is the only feather in that cap. Maybe Cofield.
Of course, he's got to be a great bet in the "who got woefully out of shape with no training camps" pool
That's an honest assessment if I've ever read one coming from an Eagles fan. I agree with everything you said except I think Jackson is one of the better receivers in the game. Right now he's easily top 15 for sure and has potential to be top 10 in the next couple years. I think a deal will get done shortly. I can't see the Eagles NOT keeping Jackson and I can't see Jackson not playing for the Eagles.
