right on both counts. Manning, ok, if you're saying he's an average player among starting safeties...i'm fine with that. I was hoping for a stud in Weddle (who wasn't..I know).

I do like Rotoworld's description of Manning: "a player that is versatile in the secondary and doesn't give up touchdowns"

It certainly depends on the contract given to each player. I worry about overpaying if we're fighting other teams for Manning. But I'm fine with it if he comes with a really good CB...not if he comes with Cromartie/Newman/etc.

If that's all they want, I'm available.

    I agree with this post.

It's not that I think Manning is a stud, but he's better than Sensabaugh. I want a cover safety back there. Two cover safeties to help save a touchdown when Kareem falls down.

Okay...waay too much being leaked/talked about now.

Clearly they are trying to get the Jets to at least match Revis money. If they do that, I think he goes to the Jets.

That was my best impersonation of John McClain drivel for the hour...

Plus if there is a corner that could teach Kareem Jackson how to play coverage who better than a top 2 corner in the league. I am not sure how strong of a leader he is but it couldn't hurt. I guess I was part of the the Nnamdi or bust category because they have such a glaring need and the best corner is out there for the taken, go get him. I do think this could be a ploy to raise the cash like it already happened for Weddle, but at least there is some reason to be optimistic.

With the two sides unable to reach agreement on a paycut, the 49ers officially told CB Nate Clements they will be releasing him

Assuming that Nnamdi picks us, do you think that we would try to grab a lower tiered CB that's available? Or is the focus purely on the safety position after we get a CB?

I can only assume we're signing Asomsomsomwa soon. The Mercury News reports we are competing with the 49'ers. He will have no choice but to sign here. Resistance is futile.

Why not a hybrid? Manning is available.

The 49ers are probably using their money for jj and or cromartie.

On Clements, to clarify, 49ers save $7.25M cash (base salary) and $15M in cap space. But I'd be surprised at this point if they get Nnamdi

My guess is that, if we get Nnamdi, Kareem Jackson (falls down) will be our opening-day starting CB2.

Like I said. Whoever doesn't get Aso is paying out the nose for Joseph. He won't get Aso money but it will be close.

Probably, but the kid from Miami has a shot to beat him out. I also hope the Texans bring back Allen for the minimum.

Signing Nnabdi would be crazy adding him to the rookies + wade phillips should make them atleats an average defense which is all they need!

that would absolutely suck. if they weren't throwing at Kareem before, they sure as hell will be now. really need an adequate corner to pair up with aso, because whoever we pair him up with is gonna get picked on hard.
