This morning on the drive in to work, he was telling everyone on 610 that Carr won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants...... they had to call him out on the air LOL.

If they sign Aso I'm giving out rep like it's freaking candy. I might even rep Ric with a message to give to his boss McNair!

As an aside, there are some interesting veterans that have been cut that I'd like to look into for the minimum. Keomatu (sp?) of the Redkins and Raubach(sp) both.

Lombardi being interviewing on NFL Network mentioning no income tax in Texas, Jets still facing Revis money (if Jets sign ASO (matching offer by Texans) Revis agent will be on telphone demanding more $. Houston has "lots of money" (say what John McClain?) and is back at #1 in Nnamdi race. Said he expects deal done today by someone.

Manning from Chicago is my preferred of the available. Like that he can return kicks too.

LZ had a great discussion today on his show about how you can play with how the contract is written to give you more flexibility. For instance, guaranteed money, which is what the players and agents really care about, doesn't have to be in the form of a true signing bonus. You can give the player a lower signing bonus (which is amortized over the life of the contract) and a low year 1 base salary, but then make it up by giving them a guaranteed roster bonus or a guaranteed workout bonus in year 2 and 3 thereby raising the total amount of guaranteed money and reducing your year 1 cap hit.

Let's assume he's going to get $36-40 million guaranteed in a 5 year deal. If it's in the form of a $25MM signing bonus, that means his cap hit for that would be $5MM a year + his yearly salary + any bonuses. If they give him a $5MM signing bonus and some other guaranteed roster/workout bonuses, they balance out the cap hit, and can push the guaranteed money into years where they have more flexibility (i.e. years when the new TV contracts hit).

The Jets did this with Holmes, we just need to be "creative" in how we manage our cap - keeping in mind the deal for Mario that is coming up.

Luckily (I hope) for us, we have a guy on the Texans staff, Chris Olsen, who used to work for the NFL and helped review contracts to make sure they were legal and in accordance with the NFL CBA and the salary cap. He should know every different way to structure a contract. He could be a HUGE figure for the team this year as they try to manage FA signings, future deals, and the cap.
