On the radio yesterday they talked about the Bengals locker room being a circus last year (see Carson Palmer's retirement), so I'm sure that JJ is weighing that in his decision.
exactly. I would guess we'd have to pay more than weddle got for sure, which was a lot. SD clearly overpaid to keep him there.
Yeah and I commend the Texans for going after Weddle and then falling out when the price went where it did. Safeties are important, but not important enough to this team right now to blow their load over Weddle and end up with a mediocre CB. Joseph is going to get paid like a shutdown corner when he isn't one.
Yes, that's almost the whole of the Texans existence. Are you suggesting he take other teams histories or maybe histories in other parallel universe's where the Texans have made good FA moves into account? If they sign Aso: I will be freaking ecstatic If they sign JJ and Manning: I'll be freaking ecstatic. please please please please this has to be the year we go all in.
Being in a Nnamdi-centered market is going to help JJ, but remember, he's 26 and considered in the top 15 in his position in the NFL. Nothing to scoff at.
From Jerome Solomon's new article: You know I’m as honest about these things as anyone in town. If they didn’t have a legit shot at landing Asomugha, or if he had let it be known that he was not at all interested or only using the Texans to drive up the price, or if going after Asomugha meant the Texans would lose out on getting a quality cornerback, I’d point that out. None of those is the case http://blog.chron.com/jeromesolomon/2011/07/relax-texans-will-get-their-man-at-cornerback/ All in, that's nice too hear
Nothing to scoff at I agree. I'm not against Joseph at all. I just think he is going to get way overpaid because of the current situation (teams that need to spend real money). Have you seen some of the contracts being given out right now to non-elite players? HEAVY guaranteed money. The Panthers have spent a TON to keep their own crappy roster together. Teams have a lot of money. Joseph will be the best CB on the market once ASO is gone and will have a handful of teams with money to burn who REALLY want a CB.
michaelombardi Hearing Houston has moved into the lead for Nnamdi Asomugha—money will be in the 12-14 mill per year range...Revis makes 11.5 per year
Yeah, the fact that there is a salary floor is really going to drive up prices, we need a little bit of luck to not end up seriously overpaying some of these guys like the Chargers did with Weddle.
