Danieal Manning drawing interest from Saints and Texans http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2011/07/danieal_manning_drawing_interest_houston_texans_saints.html
If anyone has doubts about the FO fighting for free agents, then I don't know what to say. It's obvious that the effort from the Texans is there. It's gotta be a two way street though.
Asomugha's not interested in us. He wants NYJ if the money's close. He'll stay in the bay area with a classier organization and truckloads of money if it isn't. He was willing to take our calls, but it's not happening. As far as our back up plans: Safety Dawan Landry - Jags and Ravens playing tug of war over him Daniael Manning - would be a good grab. Michael Huff - I would be happy with him Gerald Sensabaugh - "not strong in coverage" but he's still better than Pollard was Dashon Goldson - FS, but was injury plagued last year Corner Jonathan Joseph - Bengals are determined to keep him and have money to burn (Nate Clements) - Only if Aso goes to SF, which I believe is a distant second in the sweepstakes Chris Carr - The bidding is starting to heat up for him as other dominoes fall Antonio Cromartie - Not really a #1 CB, but good. Carlos Rogers - Ditto Past that, you're looking at mediocre to poor guys that would be a bad idea to put opposite Kareem.
Manning doesn't qualify as a "1 of these 2" type. He's not THAT good. He's just an upgrade for this team and I prefer him to Sensabaugh. The "1 of these 2" should be Aso or Joseph.
They are putting themselves out there. But for the "hey, they tried" crowd - if a salesman tries hard every day on the job but can't meet his quarterly quotos...doesn't he get fired? 10 years in. Excuse time is finished. McNair has been far too complacent with the poor to mediocre results Also, raise of hands if you think the Texans' FO is trying as hard as the Jets'.
You're joking, right? They've just gotten better at blowing smoke. Probably offering just enough to look like they tried, I have zero confidence in our FO.
i've given up try to talk rational to people like that. I've put them into the category of horrid phone callers into sports shows who just recycled, trite, irrelevant and unprovable ideas/opinions/statements.
Good sign. I think Asomugha has a required figure required from the Jets. If the Jets can't meet that figure by Friday, Asomugha will sign with Houston. I honestly don't get why the media says he would want to go to NY or Cali to cater to his post-football acting career. Would he be doing acting rehearsals during the season? He could take the money thrown at him by the Texans and pursue acting after football like how it's supposed to be. Another selling point for Houston: Potentially, his name could stand out more in the spotlight here, which would bode well for landing acting gigs in Hollywood after football. He would be buried in overhyped names in NY. Revis would be attached to his name in every sentence as well. SF is not going to be relevant for a while. They have a lot more work to do on offense. Houston has the offense in place already. They improve the defense, they have a legit shot. The pass rush should improve by default since Wade has stepped in. Add Asomugha to the mix, and the pass rush just got that much better. NY will win but has the least money. SF has money but won't win. Houston has the best balance of any team. Money and chance of winning.
Trying harder, or offering more money? I'd still be shocked if New York is able to offer what Nnamdi really wants. It seems like roughly half of the national sports reporters are Jets fans. Very little of the information we're getting from ESPN or SI or whatever in this discussion is unbiased. I'm sure New York has Nnamdi's ear, and they're trying harder to convince him to sign for a $2-4 Million discount, or a heavily back-loaded deal. The Texans will be able to offer more money, regardless, and I'd bet that they do. The problem is that San Franscisco can offer more money still, a probable playoff appearance, and better Super Bowl chances in the future, if they can get a quarterback.
I want to remind people that the way the media had Yankee fans believing, it was only a matter of time before Cliff Lee signed with the Yankees. When it was all done, we found out he never intended to sign there and the Yankees were third on his list.
I honestly don't know what to believe at this point, part of me believes if he wanted to sign with the Jets he has what the max they can offer. Part of me believes it could just be a bidding war between us and the 49ers, with Jets trying to restructure as much as possible to join in to increase their offer. Only time will tell, I believe Texans are making a strong offer, but I hate just falling short.
