The division is even more there for the taking than last year when we did everything possible to push the plate away...Peyton is getting long in the tooth, and nothing else is there, Jax looks bleh, Titans is in disarray (holdouts, newbies, etc.) Just gotta do 1 or 2 things...Can't wait for the 1 or 2 things to get done hopefully asap!
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is confident that free agent SS Dawan Landry will land with the Jaguars. Not pleased about this, especially if we coast our way to Sensabaugh. I'm pessimistic about Joseph - the Bengals can and will outbid us by a wide margin. Chris Carr wouldn't be shabby. Cromartie and Rogers are not real #1 CBs. They're good #2s. Reality is nodding its head yes.
It seems like we are 3rd on Nnamdi's list Mortensen went on Mike and Mike and didn't even mention our names and pretty much everything I see says 49ers and NYJ.
Adam Schefter Jets are more than $10 million UNDER salary cap, according to two NFL capologists. Might make the Jets the favorite to land Nnamdi Asomugha.
I'm not going to be too disappointed if we don't land Aso (I have been assimilated by the Texans PR machine, apparently...). I WILL be disappointed if we put all our eggs in his basket and end up with nothing. I hope we have a back-up plan. I would almost rather have a decent CB and a decent SS over a great CB and horse**** at SS (Nolan? Keo?).
I say make a run at Landry now, with Nnamdi pretty much not happening. Then wait for Nnamdi to make a decision and maybe getting Carlos Rodgers, Chris Carr. I have strong doubts we will get Joseph, Cromartie I believe is interested but I don't believe our front office is interested.
I think we will end up with Rogers, Cromartie, Joseph, or Aso. One of the 4 and a safety or resigning leach and I will be happy.
Right. But Deion Sanders was an upgrade at one of their weaker positions on the entire team. They had an elite offense, elite D-Line, and elite safeties. The "weak spots" on that team of superstars were the corners and linebackers. Right. I think this is all there is to this. New York is going after the best free agent on the market, regardless of need, just because he's the best free-agent on the market. Heck, maybe next year, they trade Revis for the quarterback or guard that they really need.
I just don't think this defense is 1 player away, even if that player is Aso. We should be thinking quantity over quality, IMO. Just a slightly better-than-average CB and SS would do wonders for this defense.
Good luck getting better than average safety play out of this FA class. The Ravens are going to fight for Landry imo. They lost Wilson who they wanted. They are already fighting to keep Carr. I expect they will keep Carr and Landry. There isn't much out there after Landry in terms of good safeties.
We've been thinking that the last several years it seems. What's that old saying in the NBA? "Whoever got the best player in the trade - won the trade."
Agreed. This team may not be 1 great player away on defense, but they aren't two average players away either.
part of me agrees with you but part of me thinks that if you eliminate one side of the field right off the bat, then that leaves with that much less to worry about. lets not forget that if the texans defense had been mediocre instead of downright terrible, we might have won a game or two more. even though the texans defense is atrocious, it wont take much to get it to be mediocre. we can win games with mediocre.
I think if you have a chance to get a lynchpin player you take it instead of looking for more mediocrity. I don't think Chris Carr and Sensabaugh added to this team makes us a SB contender, so why not sign Aso now and see where you are at the end of the season.
