Some of Mills' many canned words/phrases:

"You can't say enough about [insert player name]."

    "[...] is always huge."

    "There's no doubt."

And he's borderline Church Lady with his use of the word "special."

    I actually see a little resemblance... :)

Astros are now 6-0 after a five game losing streak this season. That has probably never been done before. :)

ha...i can't even listen to the guy anymore. makes me cringe. i wasn't a huge garner guy while he was here, but seeing houston teams' long parade of head coaches without personalities make me long for the scrap iron days. not being a complete bump on a log would be my first requirement in any head coaching search.

and i forgot all about the church lady nick. i remember we talked about his incessant overuse of "special" last year.

The short leash that management places coaches on will always prevent respectable candidates from taking the Astros job.

Please. When has this ever been an issue with the Astros?

This isn't the NFL or NBA where MLB managers have to have "their" guys on the roster. MLB managers, for the most part, go with what they have and its their job to win games. There are few exceptions (such as LaRussa) where the manager can actually have a say in which players should be traded (as he just got rid of Rasmus).

Also, if you pay enough money for a "respectable" candidate, you will get it. The Astros went out and got established managers in Jimy and Garner after having the relatively inexperienced Dierker. Now that they've got a young team, they've gone back to going with the relatively inexperienced (but long-time bench coach) in Mills. I'm sure when the time is right, and the team needs a better bullpen/game strategizer, they will get somebody "established" and "respectable".

Bourn is just sooooo good now, it might hurt more to lose him then Pence.

Build up his stock as much as possible and flip him in the off-season for high level pitching prospects.

Yep. Still kinda weird to see a guy with 0 HR batting in the 3 spot.

Good god, just when I defend Hunter for his unusual defense, the fool has had a horrible road trip. It was not an easy play but certainly make able.

It would have been a very good play. I don't necessarily blame him for not making the catch. What you did see though was the poor route he took. He zig zags and stutter steps all too often. A better OFer gets a better read on that ball and thus takes a more direct route. If he has Pence's speed, he quite possibly makes that plus play.

That was also a lousy pitch by Wandy. Very much got away with one.

How many times in MLB history has a team traded for an Asian RFer to replace an injured Asian RFer?

I'm guessing the answer is 1.

    Giveth... taketh.

CJ's throw kind of handcuffed him though.

Corporan is awful. I've seen enough of him.

Pence has a strong arm but not always the most accurate.

Wandy screwed up there by not backing up home but should have been out of the inning.
