exactly...it's nice living in Austin wishing for some rain on your lawn, but in Houston, I don't want this thing anywhere near us.
I'd rather have a cat 1 pass through here than a tropical storm stal above us ala Allison. At least the Hurricane will get in and out quickly.
I believe they came about when people kept incessantly asking Berger on his blog if they should evacuate when it started to look like Rita was coming our way. It morphed into a joke afterwards and has been a yearly thing now ever since.
Damn, here I am in Corpus Christi on vacation all week, supposed to leave Saturday afternoon. I may have to call this trip short.
Dammit, we need that rain....hopefully it makes landfall mexico, then takes a 75 degree turn and takes a slow, leisurely walk through Texas.
It appears to my non meteorologist eyes that yesterday Don decoupled and barely survived its move just offshore of the Yucatan peninsula. If you saw any of the charts making its way around weather boards, the lower level circulation moved generally westward while the mid level circulation stuck around Cuba. The latest satellite animation seem to have two distinct circulations. One moving NW toward the Texas coast and another moving south into Central America. Did anyone else catch this? Looks like as they gain separation the real Don has finally caught its breath and is ready to strengthen a bit. I'm interested to see what becomes of that mid level circulation now. These have been known to make their way to the surface but it can be very slow to develop. Thoughts?
