So, how big of a fail would it be if we didn't sign any corners AND didn't sign Leach. All of the players are begging for him back on Twitter. I really think they would be devastated not to get him back. Especially if the money that could have gone to him was given to a backup QB, a backup OT, and a #3 receiver. I assumed that if we didn't bring Leach back, it would be because we were getting a legit corner, not Matt F***ing Leinart. I hate being a fan of this team.
I think you're just angry the Texans aren't getting him. The Jets already potentially have the best front 7 unit/system in football. Now they for-sure can have the best secondary. They don't have a weakness that's easilly exposable on the defensive side of things. That being said, nothing matter till they get out on that field and actually play as a unit. Nnamdi could play worse when he's in the spotlight 24/7. Revis may have more lingering injuries pop up. Who knows... but right now, they look very scary if they add him.
Sadly it comes down to NY v Houston. We always lose to LA, NY, or Miami. These cities are just better to live in if you have money. It's Joseph or bust now!!!
Exactly. They're still beatable from both aspects. May not get the deep threat on them, but they're still ripe for screens and quick routes.... and the delayed handoff can kill them when they have everybody blitzing. But when you let David Carr 2.0 lead a game winning drive against your pourous secondary, you're in trouble.
Not a huge loss but still another cb off the list Adam Schefter CB Drayton Florence to the Bills -- 3 years for $15 million.
Oh definitely. Nope, not even close. Steelers, Packers, and Bears are much better. Ravens and Patriots are probably better. Falcons are probably equal. Are they really automatically better than the Ravens and Steelers? The Ravens were 40 ypg better against the pass last year, the Steelers were twice as good. Lets not forget that Jim Leohnard and Emanuel Cook are their starting safeties. I'm not an NFL coach, but I could write plays get a decent tight end, slot receiver, or running back a ton of underneath catches against those two guys. Not really, but they're awful in the middle of their offensive line, and have a quarterback that goes Rosenfelter every once in a while. I think the cornerback situation will work wonderfully for them. But upgrading your cornerback from a great number 2 (which Cromartie was) to an All-Pro is worth one win per year, at most, especially when your offense will lose a game or two for you on mistakes.
Please don't junk this thread up with the pointless line by line responses... News is flowing in now. The lockout is over and no one wants to see that anymore.
I don't see how that doesn't make sense. For the Texans, Nnamdi would be a huge upgrade at their biggest weekness. For the Jets, he's a moderate upgrade at their biggest strength. That'd be one thing if they didn't have holes, but they do (at least as far as being a Super Bowl threat goes).
Kubiak's probably got 10 different variations of the HB pass drawn up for when he thinks he'll face the Jets in the AFC Championships.
Because our defense would still have holes and they would go from having a very strong defense to a potential all-time dominant one. A dominant defense can carry a team to a title. See the Ravens or Bucs. I have more faith in him making their very good defense dominant than in him making our ****ty one average.
I think you're vastly overrating the importance of CB2 for a defense. (Yes I know that Nnamdi would be CB1, but all of the sudden the Jets best current player (Revis) plays CB2.) The CBs on that Ravens team? Chris McAlister and Duane Starks. Nice players, but certainly not world-beaters.
Please don't junk this thread up by presuming to tell people how to post. Or by presuming to know what everyone does or does not wish to see. If you don't like the way a post looks, do the really, really hard thing and (*gasp*) scroll down.
Via Adam Wexler: Get ready for your starting secondary of Clements, Kareem Jackson/Mccain, Quin, and Sensabaugh. FML I just have a strong feeling that might happen. Or we'll get Clements and another guy like Carlos Rogers ... better than Kareem, but that would be such a disappointment with this crop of free agents.
I'm not overrating how important another lockdown corner can be in a system that would be happy bringing the house and leaving their corners on an island the majority of the time. There are plenty of ways to build a stud defense. the point is that the Jets are arguably near stud status and adding another shutdown corner will probably put them there. And a stud defense can carry an anemic offense to a title. Yes, teams don't typically have a 2nd CB as good as Nnamdi or Revis (whichever one you think is worse). That's what so scary about the thought.
LanceZierlein There are people in the Texans building who want Rick to sign 2 CBs in FA & not just one. Nate Clements could be one & C.Rogers the other?
